Canvas App - Subject Entity dependent dropdown

Hi All,

I want to have dependent dropdown wherein In first dropdown only records for which parentsubject field is blank should be visible and depending on the selected record of first dropdown I want to filter out records for second dropdown.

Actually I am using CRM Subject entity which has self referential relationship and I am not sure why I am unable to access Parent subject from the entity. It is throwing me error that it is not supported for evaluation. Could you please help me create a dependent dropdown for the subject entity where for Parent Dropdown I have all the Parent Subjects (the way to identify parent subject is parentsubject field which remains blank for parent subjects) & depending on it  I can select Child Subjects where parent subject guid is same as that of selected in first dropdown.

Hi @Debz ,

Could you please share a bit more about the 'Parent Subject' field in your Entity? Is it a LookUp Type field or LookUp field generated by "Many-to-one" relationship?

Regarding the screenshot that you mentioned, I think the 'Parent Subject' field is a LookUp type field in your Entity, is it right? The 'Parent Subject' LookUp type field reference record values from your Subjects Entity itself.

Based on the issue that you mentioned, actually, the "parentsubject field is unsupported for evaluation" message is not an error, it is just a Intelligence prompt from the Formula bar box, it means that the Intelligence Formula bar could not calculate the column value (it is a normal behavior, Intelligence formula bar could not calculate complex data field value).

I have made a test on my side, please try the following workaround:

1.JPG

Add two ComboBox in your canvas app -- 'Parent Subject' ComboBox and 'Child Subject' ComboBox. Set the Items property of the 'Parent Subject' ComboBox (ComboBox1) to following:

Filter(TaskLists, IsBlank('Parent Subject'))

on your side, you should type following formula:

Filter(Subjects, IsBlank('Parent Subject'))

Set the Items property of the 'Child Subject' ComboBox (ComboBox2) to following:

Filter(TaskLists, 'Parent Subject'.'Primary Name' = ComboBox1.Selected.'Primary Name')

on your side, you should type the following formula:

Filter(Subjects, 'Parent Subject'.Title = ComboBox1.Selected.Title)

Please try above solution, then check if the issue is solved.
