Capture Date on Button Click

Hi Gurus,

Can someone help me on this case, I have created an App with form, there is a Date/Time field, that I want the user to capture the date and time on real time when clicking on a button in the card it self. And in a later time once all details are completed will the user submit the record to list.

I have searched and checked these two links following the same steps, it doesn't seem to work.

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/Get-Today-Date-when-Dropdown-change/td-p/289...

https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/DateTime-Button/m-p/483540#M145757

I just want to capture date and time populating the fields, then the form will be submitted.

once the button is clicked it should look like this:

Muhja_1-1640864414751.png

The used codes are in both links but nothing is working, it is like the Onselect is not seeing the code, can someone help me please with a step by step process.

Field is Date/Time type of field incoming from sharepoint list.

Hi @Satishkumar

I will give it a try, however, I am trying to capture date and time before form submission,

meaning the user will be entering many fields, in the form cards, one of them is the date/time card that I want to capture once the button is clicked. And the form submission will happen at a later time when user clicks Save button which have the (SubmitForm(Form1)) code. I hope it is clear for you now.

What is the default mode of that form? If you press the play button, does your form show? Have you been testing in play mode or by using the alt+click method?

@iAm_ManCat Hi, Default mode of form is Edit. and I have been testing using the Play. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you've done with those fields, as when I tested it now, it worked.

DatePicker DefaultDate: If(vInTime,Today(), Parent .Default)

Hour field Default: If(vInTime,Hour(Now()),Text(Hour(Now()),"00"))

Minute field Default: If(vInTime,Minute(Now()),Text(Minute(Now()),"00"))

'Capture Date/Time' button's OnSelect:

UpdateContext({vInTime:true});
UpdateContext({buttonDisabled:true})

Result was:

Hi @iAm_ManCat

This is really weird, check this video of the same replicated in a new card I just made. I noticed that the variables are set a value, when I manually change and clear it keeps returning that value instead. and the Capture button is not doing anything?

Hope the GIF resolution is good enough, but I have the same codes as you and nothing else. Any idea why it is behaving like this?

Hi @iAm_ManCat @Satishkumar

Thank you for both of your support, I managed to tweak the solution a bit, here is how I solved it.

1- The form has the date/time card. only let the Date, hour and minutes fields here and put the following in each field 'Default':

   a- For date field => If(vInTime,Now(),Parent.Default)

   b- For hour field => If(vInTime,Text(Hour(Now()),"00"),Parent.Default)

   c- For Minute field => If(vInTime,Text(Minute(Now()),"00"),Parent.Default)

2- On the screen (that includes the Form) Visible control => UpdateContext({vInTime:false});

3- On the screen, outside of the card and form insert a button to capture the date/time, and in the 'On Select' control put this => UpdateContext({vInTime:true});

4- to enable the clearing of all fields including the Date/time card, on screen level put another button (call it clear or something) and put this code:

   ResetForm(Form1);
   UpdateContext({vInTime:false});

This should do it.

Note: my issue was with placing the capture button inside the card, also the reset of the variable vInTime was not reading from within the card for some reason. That is why I have placed the button on the screen level.
