Cascading Dropdown Help

Data Source is an excel file located on OneDrive

  • DataSource: "CellPhones"
  • Collection: is all of the spreadsheet CellPhones named "MainB"
  • On Visible: ClearCollect(MainB, Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62"))
  • Parent Dropdown: Sort(Distinct(MainB, MBU),Result)
  • Second Dropdown: This is where I'm having issues. When I try to enter this formula:
    Distinct(Filter(MainB,'Cost Center'=MainBranch1.Selected.Result),'Cost Center')
    I don't have a "Value" option only "Result".
  • Gallery Filter: Filter(MainB, 'Cost Center'=CostCenter1.Selected.Result, MBU=MainBranch1.Selected.Result

There are two columns in my collection I'm using to filter 1. MBU and 2. Cost Center

For each MBU there are multiple Cost Centers. I'm trying to have the first dropdown, the MBU, drive the options for the second dropdown.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Ok, I figured it out. For those who come across this search and might want to duplicate here is what worked....

Parent Dropdown: Sort(Distinct(Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62"), MBU), Result)
Second Dropdown: Sort(Distinct(Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62" && MBU= MainBranch1.Selected.Result), 'Cost Center'),Result)
Gallery Filter: Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62" && 'Cost Center'=Dropdown4.Selected.Result && MBU= MainBranch1.Selected.Result)

@BKICK

Yes, you will only have a Result column because you are using the Distinct function.  It returns a table with record that have just a Result column.

Unless you have some particular need to duplicate all of your Data in your app, I would skip the collection and set your Dropdown1 Items property to:

Sort(Distinct(Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62"), MBU), Result)

The Items property for the second dropdown:

Distinct(Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62" && 'Cost Center' = MainBranch1.Selected.Result),'Cost Center')

Gallery Items property:

Filter(CellPhones,
    DISTRICT="62" &&
    'Cost Center' = CostCenter1.Selected.Result &&
    MBU = MainBranch1.Selected.Result
)

I hope this is helpful for you.

Hey @BKICK

The Distinct function evaluates a formula across each record of a table and returns a one-column table of the results with duplicate values removed. The name of the column is Result.

First Dropdown -

Item = Sort(Distinct(MainB, MBU),Result); --> This is correct.

Second Dropdown -

Item = Distinct(Filter(MainB,'Cost Center'.Value=MainBranch1.Selected.Result),columnName)

Gallery Item -

Filter(MainB,
'Cost Center' = CostCenter1.Selected.Result &&
MBU = MainBranch1.Selected.Result
)

Hope It Helps...!

@RandyHayes Thank you Randy,

I followed your advice but the second dropdown is an issue. The only time something appears in the second dropdown is when there is a cost center with the same number as the first dropdown.

For example. The first selection in the first dropdown is 1363. There is no 1363 cost center in the second dropdown. The dropdown doesn't contain anything. When I select the second option 1377 then 1377 appears in the second dropdown as an option but it's the only option.

@RandyHayes I know you're probably extremely busy. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. I haven't stopped trying to figure out the puzzle.

@BKICK

My apology that I lost track of this in my tracking system.

I am glad you figured it out.

I would recommend that you not do so many data actions in your controls.  I would have initially mentioned this, but it did not seem to fit how I was interpreting your original post.

Your Parent Dropdown Items property should be:

Sort(
    GroupBy(
        Filter(CellPhones, DISTRICT="62"),
        "MBU", "_costCenters"
    ),
    MBU
)

Your Second dropdown Items property should be:

Sort(
    GroupBy(MainBranch1.Selected._costCenters,
        "Cost Center", "_items"
    ),
   'Cost Center'
)

And your Gallery Items property:

Dropdown4.Selected._items

This will provide the same results and will only interact with the datasource once, which will be much more performant in your app.

Again, sorry for the delay!
