Change Form Data Sources w/out Losing Form Styling?

There are MANY cases where I want to develop a PowerApps Form against a Sharepoint Custom List then move my app to a different data source later.

Moving to a new data source REMOVES all the Data Card formatting that I put in place.

Am I missing something here or is there a way to keep your Data Card formatting and point the Form to a new Data Source?

Thanks

Hi @ericonline,

What is the Data Card formatting that you are trying to keep? Did you mean like the control types inside Form? If so, your requirement cannot be achieved so far. It is by design that if you change the data source of the Form, the controls inside would automatically change according to the column types in the new data source.

Hi @v-monli-msft

I'm referring to every property inside the data card:

  • Label.Height, .Width, .FontWeight, .Font
  • Star.Visible, .Size, .Color
  • InputBox.Everything

I go through significant efforts to customize the contents of a Data Card but for some reason, all that customization is tied to the Data Source. I believe we would all benefit greatly from separating Data Card formatting from the Formulas and Parent.Everthing.

The biggest use case is when someone comes to me and says: "Thats the wrong Sharepoint list, we need your app to point over here.", or "We'll just move it to SQL in the future." I have to say, "Its not that easy".

Another question here:

  • If I use a SQL data source, will moving the SQL tables to another database cause loss of Form styling?

e.g. Start with on-prem SQL database, import to Azure SQL at a future date.

Thank you

Hi @ericonline,

Yes, it is by design that all these would be reset if you change the data source in the Form control. Sorry that so far there is no workaround I could think of for this.
