Change value in one Collection based on another collection

Thank you for taking the time to read my question.

I have one Collection that is a list of values previously selected by a user.

I want to update another collection where the values are the same

collAllHNum = All the possible values to chose from. Columns are Title and IsChosen

collExistingHNum = All the values the user selected the last time they accessed the record. Only column is ExistHNum

What I want to do is: Where collAllHNum.Title = ExistHNum, make collAllHNum.IsChosen = true

ForAll(collExistingHNum,UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title = collExistingHNum.ExistHNum,{IsChosen = false}))

My UpdateIf part is all red underlined. Not sure what I'm supposed to change.

Thanks

EDIT:

I noticed my formula was wrong. The last "=" should be a ":"

ForAll(collExistingHNum,UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title = collExistingHNum.ExistHNum,{IsChosen: false}))

When I do this, the "=" between Title and collExistingHNum.ExistHNum is red underlined.

Thanks!

Hi @iwonder :

I'm not sure if I understand your needs correctly. If there are errors, please help me to point them out:

  • You want to update the IsChosen field of the record to false if the value of the Title field of the record in collAllHNum appears in the ExistHNum column of collExistingHNum

If so,just use the updateif function alone:

UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title in collExistingHNum.ExistHNum,{IsChosen:false})

Hi @v-bofeng-msft

Thank you for your reply. I woke up this morning thinking of exactly this! Your suggestion works exactly as I need:

UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title in collExistingHNum,{IsChosen:true})

Thanks!!

Hi @iwonder ,

Try this:

ForAll(collExistingHNum,UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title = collExistingHNum.ExistHNum,{IsChosen: false}))

I hope this resolved your issue if you see any challenge/need further help please let me know I am always happy to do it for my community.

Hi @KrishnaV

I realized that mistake and updated my post.. but you're TOO FAST!! 🙂

The equal sign is now underlined... Invalid argument type.

Any thoughts?

Hi @iwonder ,

NP 😄, try this:

ForAll(collExistingHNum,UpdateIf(collAllHNum,Title = Text(collExistingHNum.ExistHNum),{IsChosen: false}))

Thanks @KrishnaV

The equal sign is no longer underlined however the Text() part you added now is. I also tried Value() with the same error.

Do I need to use "Result" somehow because of the ForAll?

Hi @iwonder ,

I have a strong doubt on collExistingHNum column. Please ensure that it is wright. For the time being change the formula with a hardcoded value as Title="sample" and then see how it behaves.

Hi @KrishnaV

You are correct, that clears the error under the equal sign.

How do I refer to the current record of the ForAll then, or am I not understanding how this works?

I would expect that the ForAll loops through all the records in collExistingHNum and then the UpdateIf looks at the current ForAll record and compares the value to collAllHNum.ExistHNum and where they match updates the IsChosen to true.

Hi @iwonder ,

If you can provide me the schema of both the lists I can help you better.

Hi @KrishnaV

This works:

ForAll(collExistingHNum,Patch(collAllHNum,First(Filter(collAllHNum,Title = "334_00")),{IsChosen:false}))

here is the schema of each Collection:

collExistingHNum

ExistHNum
315_00
319_00
350_00
372_00

collAllHNum

IDIsChosenTitle
26false301_00
27false310_00
28false315_00
29false350_00

In this case Where collAllHNum.Title = "315_00" OR collAllHNum.Title = "350_00" make IsChosen = true

is this what you need? or is there a way to export the actual schema of the collection?
