Collection, Current User, Nested Collection

I have a collection called myTheory that looks like this

TitleStatusUsers
Test 1OpenUser 1 | User 2
Test 2OpenUser 1 | User 2 | User 3 | User 4
Test 3OpenUser 1 | User 2 | User 3

The users column is a nested collection for each record and can have a wide ranger of users that are within that column.

The nested collection looks like this

ClaimsDepartmentDisplayNameEmailJobTitlePicture
User Claim Doe, JohnJohn.Doe@yahoo.com
User Claim Doe, MaryMary.Doe@yahoo.com

  1. How can I compare the current user to the Users listed in that column for every record in the collection.
  2. If the current user is listed in that column, I want to change his status to "Submitted" in a dropdown box labeled "ChoicesDropdown" with the choices of "Open" "Submitted" "Closed"

I have tried multiple ways of looping through the collection, then looping through the nested collection with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
