Combo Box DefaultSelectedItems Not Showing SharePoint Person Column Data

Hello Kind Folk,

I have an issue with a Canvas App Combo Box trying to retrieve data from a SharePoint Online Person column in a list.

Parameters:

  • App Type: Cavas App
  • Data: SharePoint list - New Hire
    • Column: Assigned To (Person, Single Select)
      AssignedToSpoList.png

  • Variables: gbl_NewHireRecord

Set(
    gbl_NewHireRecord,
    LookUp(
        'env-List-NewHire', // Environment variable connecting to SPO list
        ID = Value(Param("ID")) // DepLink parameter to retrieve selected record
   )

  • Assigned To Control: Combo Box (single select, not a canvas app Edit form)
    AssignedToComboBox.png
    • Data Source: _TechAdmins
      ADFS group members configured in App.Formulas property (I've also tried a collection in App.OnStart)

// Get members of the ADFS "TechAdmin Group"
_TechAdmins = SortByColumns(
    Office365Groups.ListGroupMembers("1111111-1111-1111-111-111222111").value,
    "displayName",
    SortOrder.Ascending
);

  • DefaultSelectedItems: here I've tried a couple of things, retrieving a specific record from the SharePoint list based on the variable above.
    Option 1:

First(Table({Email: gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'}.Email))

Option 2:

{
    '@odata.type': "#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser",
    Claims: "i:0#.f|membership|" & gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'.Claims,
    Department: "",
    DisplayName: gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'.DisplayName,
    Email: gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'.Email,
    JobTitle: "",
    Picture: ""
}

When the user selects a person from the combo box and clicks Save, the Patch submits it to the list successfully.

Patch(
            'env-List-NewHire',
            Defaults('env-List-NewHire'),
            {
                'Last Name': txt_EmploymeeLastName_DS.Text,
                'Employment Type': cmb_EmploymentType_DS.Selected,
                'Assigned To': {
                    '@odata.type': #Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedUser",
                    Claims: cmb_StatusAssignedTo_DS.Selected.userPrincipalName,
                    Department: "",
                    DisplayName: "",
                    Email: cmb_StatusAssignedTo_DS.Selected.mail,
                    'Job Title': "",
                    Picture: ""
                }
            }
        )

Problem Description:

When the user views or edits an existing record, the Assigned To person information does not appear. When I place the variable for the record in a label, i.e., gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'.Email (or Claims or DisplayName, etc.), I can see the person's information. The information is also correctly displayed in the formula:

Thank you in advance!!!

I found the solution!

Amazing how stepping away for a couple of hours can clear your mind.

Combo Box DefaultSelectedItems:

RenameColumns(
        Table({Value: gbl_NewHireRecord.'Assigned To'}.Value),
        "Email",
        "mail",
        "DisplayName",
        "displayName"
    )
