Combo Boxes not saving blank value after deselecting previous value

Hello fellow Power Apps developers,

I have run into an issue with combo boxes.  I have a SharePoint list Canvas App with combo boxes (single selection) populated with items from other SharePoint lists in the same site.

When I select an item from any combo box and save the form, all updates are saved.  However, when I deselect an item from a combo box (leaving it blank) and save the form and reopen it, the combo box field still has the previous option/item.  It seems it does not save blank entries once the field has been previously populated.

The combo box Update property is Field.Selected.Title and DefaultSelectedItems is [Parent.Default].

Any advice would be appreciated; please let me know if you wish me to provide additional information.

Thanks!

Hi @TheWizardHunter,

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to patch a blank value to a Text column?

Could you please share a bit more about the scenario?

From your description, you set the Combo Box with the following formula:

Tab2.'Survey ID' // Tab2 is my SP list and the 'Survey ID' is a column populated the ComboBox

Set the Update property of the data card as below:

If(
    IsBlank(ComboBox1.Selected) || IsEmpty(ComboBox1.Selected),
    "",
    ComboBox1.Selected.'Survey ID'
)

Check if this could help you.

Qi

Hello @TheWizardHunter,

Have you tried enabling Formula-level error management in your app's settings:

Hello Joe,

Yes, I have this enabled but it is not flagging any issues.

Hello @TheWizardHunter,

this option should also allow you to submit forms with empty combo boxes. Could you please try if it is now working?

Hello @joe_hannes_col,

Thank you for the advice.  I tried deselecting an item from a combo box and saving the form but when I reopened the form all the settings in other combo boxes were returned to blank.  I tried this several times with the same outcome.  So I had to disable that experimental feature.
