Combo box empties after submitform



I have a form that holds multiple combo boxes, and they are working fine on the original submission of the form. However when a user then selects that item from a gallery and goes back into the form, makes a change to a random field, and then Saves the changes by pressing a button which just has SubmitForm, it is clearing a couple of the combo boxes so that the value becomes blank and I can't see why. Below is my current formulas:


Item of the Combo box: Sort(Distinct(col_BusinssApprovers, Business_Approver_Name), Value, SortOrder.Ascending)


DefaultSelectedItem: If(var_ReuseRRF, Blank(), { Value: ThisItem.Business_Approver })

 - Please note, I have to use a variable called var_Reuse as there are times when a user will re-submit a previous form as new, however this isnt when the issue is happened.

It seems your combo boxes are clearing due to the DefaultSelectedItem property. When you revisit the form for editing, this property sets the combo box value to blank. You can adjust the DefaultSelectedItem property to handle both new submissions and edits. Here's an updated formula:

DefaultSelectedItem: If(var_ReuseRRF, Blank(), LookUp(col_BusinssApprovers, Business_Approver_Name = ThisItem.Business_Approver))

This formula will set the default selected item to the corresponding Business_Approver from ThisItem if the form is not being reused. Otherwise, it remains blank. This change should maintain the combo box value when editing an existing item.

This seems to be returning blank every time now, even when I just go into the item.


It seems to be then when I submit the form after a change, it wipes out current info as the SP list updates to blank as well


It sounds like the issue might be with how the DefaultSelectedItem property interacts with your form's data context, particularly after a form submission. Try using the First function instead to ensure it fetches the first matching item. Here's the revised formula:

DefaultSelectedItem: If(
    First(Filter(col_BusinssApprovers, Business_Approver_Name = ThisItem.Business_Approver))

This formula will fetch the first item from col_BusinssApprovers that matches ThisItem.Business_Approver. It should prevent the combo box from resetting to blank after submitting the form.

Remember, it's crucial that the Business_Approver_Name matches the value in ThisItem.Business_Approver for the formula to work correctly.

If the combo box still displays blank values after the form submission, consider checking the data source and context. Here's another approach:

  1. Check Data Source: Ensure col_BusinssApprovers has the correct data and that Business_Approver_Name matches the value in ThisItem.Business_Approver.

  2. Use Collect Function: Before the form submission, collect the selected items in a separate collection and use it as a reference for the DefaultSelectedItem property.

  3. Debugging: Add a label to the form to display the value of ThisItem.Business_Approver and ensure it's not blank.

  4. Alternative Property: If DefaultSelectedItem is still problematic, try using Items property to bind directly to the data source, filtering based on ThisItem.Business_Approver.

This approach aims to ensure the combo box retrieves and displays the correct values.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Results posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
