Combobox not showing value in Form Edit

Hello,

Challenge

I have a SharePoint with a custom Form. The form requires a 'Resident Full Name'. To avoid our staff entering the same individual but with different spelling, I made the 'Resident Full Name' a combo box that pulls the previously entered 'Resident Full Name' for suggestion. The suggestion function works.

However, when I choose to edit the item from the SharePoint list, the Combobox doesn't pull the data I previously save when filling out the form. It shows empty.

Error

The value "asdasdfdg" isn't showing in 'Resident Full Name'.

Please let me know if there is any other value I should share.

Looking forward to understand what I did wrong.

Thank you!

Hi @statuko

The Default selection should be from combobox Items, so the most versatile way is to Lookup from Combo box Item.

Please modify the DefaultSelectedItems property as below:

LookUp([@'Post-Fall Reports'].ResidentName, ResidentName=ThisItem.ResidentName)

Hope this helps.

HI @statuko ,

Make the DefaultSelectedItems of the ComboBox Parent.Default

Hi @WarrenBelz ,

Thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately that did not solve it. The form is behaving the same, but I get the red X beside the Combobox when DefaultSelectedItems is set to Parent.Default

OK @statuko ,

By your image, ComboBox1 is in ResidentName_DataCard1  - you should not get an error on Parent.Default as it is simply taking the Default value of the card. A bit strange, but try ThisItem.ResidentName.

Also turn off the Allow Multiple Selections (Set SelectMultiple to false).

Hi @WarrenBelz,

Thank you for the fast replies!

I have tried those settings but without success. Still the same behavior.

However I figured out that my team member who originally created the SharePoint list and the form in fact used the 'Title' column from SharePoint and renamed it as 'ResidentName'. I'm unsure if this could be the source of the strange behavior.

Thanks.

Hi @statuko ,

Absolutely - now that I see the error.

Should be ThisItem.Title

@v-siky-msft That worked! Thank you for your help!

Hi @WarrenBelz,

I tried it, unfortunately it didn't work. I was still getting the error in PowerApps, but I I still gave it a try and the form wouldn't populate.

Can't thank you enough for the fast replies and suggestions!

Hi statuko,

Try putting that formula in the defaultselectedItems property of the combobox,

You may have already found this, but just in case someone else may benefit, this is my solution.

ForAll('yourdatasource',{Value:ThisItem.'YourColumn'}).

The other issue is the Update of the card, if this is not right it will not update a SharePoint list, it see's it as empty. In the update property add If(IsBlank,ComboBox.selected.'column'),ThisItem.'column',ComboBox.selected.'column')
