Control focus in extending gallery with tabulator

We're working on a (rather simple) web-app for cooking-teachers to compose and commit grocery orders at our school (see screenshot).

The usual workflow should be:

- fill out the general order information in the fields on the top of the screen

- tab to the combobox "Artikel wählen" (= "choose article"), select an article, tab to the M column to enter the amount, tab to the plus-button to patch this article to the order. An empty article is patched to the order as well

- the gallery automatically updates with a new row to take the previous patch into account

- tab (or automatically set focus) to the new combobox to choose the next article.

The problem arises in the last step. Automatically setting the focus to the new combobox is not possible, as SetFocus is not available in galleries (see here). Tabbing to the combobox is not possible since with the data refresh, the gallery drops focus. Therefore, users have to use the mouse to select the next row which is kinda cumbersome and interrupts the workflow.

Did anyone have to deal with a similar scenario?

We would be glad to hear if anyone knew of any tricks to circumvent these limitations, or of an idea on how to model this without a gallery.

Hi @kgrjnn :

I'm afraid there is currently no way to automatically focus the first control of the newly created item.

In addition, after my test, after clicking the '+' of Gallery and then 'Tab', it will start with row where the '+' you clicked is located. That is:

  • If there are currently two records, click the + in the first row to create the third record and then 'Tab', it will start with the controls in the first row
  • If there are currently two records, click the + in the second row to create a third record and then 'Tab', it will start with the controls in the second row

Hope this helps.

Finally, if you want PowerApps to improve on this, I recommend you create a new idea through the below URL, then ask  your colleagues to raise up the votes.

Power Apps Ideas - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

The  product team has direct visibility of these ideas and they will implement it on the basis of the highest number of votes received.
