Count a submitted value (hours)

Hi,

I have a Timesheet submission form. The top of the form is an edit form where you fill in details linked to SP. The bottom half is a display form which shows last submitted record. Please see screenshot below for a reference.

My plan is to have a separate box on the timesheet with the following "Total Hours Submitted: x". Basically each time a record is submitted in a session, this area would store how many hours had been submitted in that session. So for example I input a 3 hour timesheet entry submit, this box would say "Total Hours Submitted: 3, and then I submit a time entry which is 2 hrs, then the box would update to say Total Hours Submitted: 5. The purpose of this is that by the end of the session, the user can see that their full working day (i.e. let's say 7.5 hours) has been submitted to Sharepoint.

I essentially need a way to count a submitted value whereby each submission adds to the value but I haven't been able to find anything online about how to do this. My thoughts are something like a variable or collection item which stores the last submitted hours record... Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

R

Hi @redturtle ,

The code needed is

Set(
   HoursSubmitted,
   HoursSubmitted + Value(HoursTextBox.Text)
)

You could put that OnChange of the Text box, but if someone made an error and then corrected it, both inputs would be added. I suggest a Submit button that becomes enabled or visible on the OnChange of the Text box.

You probably have something in your Select event for your Submit button like "Collect(DataSource,<Record>);".

Add to that something like "Set(HoursSubmitted,HoursSubmitted + NumberValue(HoursTextBox.Text));"

Then you would set the "Total Hours" text box Text to HoursSubmitted.

Hi @sopatte, thanks for the reply.

Would "Set(HoursSubmitted,HoursSubmitted + NumberValue(HoursTextBox.Text));" go in the Onselect property then?

Also is NumberValue a variable in the above situation? Power Apps doesn't seem to register it. Thanks

Thanks @WarrenBelz .

I have tried to implement your suggestion and come up with an error. Could you please advise on what I'm doing wrong? Thank you for all of your help.

Kind regards,

Value needs to be upper case.

@Base2Rob @WarrenBelz ,

Thanks. I think I'm getting somewhere as the box returns a value however it is a zero for some reason.

In the screenshot below, it shows a zero however the timesheet submitted to Sharepoint was 10 Hours. Any ideas on why this might be?

Thanks a lot for all your help.

@redturtle ,

Not only the upper case, you also have a space before the bracket.

@redturtle ,

Put the Set before the SubmitForm and see if that makes a difference.

Hi @WarrenBelz

Thanks for those suggestions.

I created a new form to test and it's still giving a zero unfortunately.

Could it be an issue with one of these two?

1. Could it be something to do with how I'm connecting to the hours values actually submitted? I don't see exactly how the "Hours" data I'm filling out and submitting to Sharepoint is connected up to the HoursSubmitted variable or the HoursTextBox.Text. My Hours text box is just a label whose Text property is called HoursSubmitted but I'm not sure how that links up to the actual hours submitted in the edit form.

2. Otherwise perhaps it might be something to do with the instruction above from from @sopatte "you probably have something in your Select event for your Submit button like "Collect(DataSource,<Record>);". This doesn't sound familiar either so could be the cause of the issue...

Thanks for your help. Even if not solved, I'm glad to have learned a bit more about Power Apps.

Kind regards,
