Create sum of list value

Goodday all,
I have a question

I am trying to summarize the values in a dropdown. This might be doable easier if so let me know.
I cant just do "Sum(name_dropdown).
It wants me to use .Selected.name but i wan't to calculate the entire dropdown not just selected.
If there is a other way to create a list based on a filter(Dropdown is just a placeholder fyi). And then Sum that let me know.

TLDR; Trying to create a sum on a controll(dropdown).

Hi @Anonymous ,

First of all, the result of Sum function is of type Number. This function will calculate the total of a list of numbers and result can only be displayed in a Label or TextInput box.

Since you have already got the 'DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production' items by the following formula

Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production', batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id)

this is a table and the list box actually contains all the columns of DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production' table, you can get production ids or steps ids by adding a dot (.) to call out a specific column.

To get all targets, you will need all batch steps first:

GroupBy(
Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production', batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id), "product_subunit_batch_step_id", "others"
).product_subunit_batch_step_id

Then you will need to filter DD target to get all targets by the step id:

Filter('DD target', product_subunit_batch_step_id in
    GroupBy(
        Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production',
            batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id),
        "product_subunit_batch_step_id",
        "others"
    ).product_subunit_batch_step_id
)

There could be duplicate targets, so you will need a Distinct function to get unique values in a List Box:

Distinct(
    Filter('DD target', product_subunit_batch_step_id in
        GroupBy(
            Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production',
                batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id),
            "product_subunit_batch_step_id",
            "others"
        ).product_subunit_batch_step_id
    ),
    target
).Result

Set above formula in Items property of a List Box.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Sum needs a table as data source, while your requirement is to summarize the entire Dropdown items, which is a table as well, you can copy the formula of Items property of the Dropdown and use it for Sum function:

Sum(ItemsOfDropdown, ColumnOfTable)

Thank you, I ended up indeed summing a table's values and filtering it based on a selected mainitem which is where the dp was dependent on. This worked.

I don't know why but i can use the next code in a ListBox and i'd get all options needed.
But when i put it in a "Sum" it errors:

Sum(Filter('DD.target', target = processorder_id_name_dropdown.Selected.processorder_id),target)

But then this measure does filter does work? So why won't it sum.
This code also works: Which i tried to recreate for the current function

Sum(Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production', batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id),duration)

Are you just trying to sum all values of a single column for all rows? for example 3 entries and for column you want to total have values of [4,2,8]. Do you want to calculate 14? If so this might do the trick:

Sum(GalleryName.AllItems, ColumnToSum)

Hi @Anonymous ,

The formula is OK, but you have put it in Items of a ListBox. Items property requires a data source, which is a table. However, the result of Sum function is a Number.

Not an entire column no. Just a list which is filtered in listbox

So which insert option do i use? I am so lost on where to go next. I got all code filtered but still cant get the result i need. I can't input a table instead because of the filterlist. It goes through multiple tables with relations.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You will need a Label with Text property set to the Sum formula and display the result, the Lable can be placed just under the List box. The List box can be used for displaying all items of the table with the Filter formula:

Filter('DD.product_subunit_batch_step_production', batch_cycle_id = dataholder_batch_cycle_id.Selected.batch_cycle_id)
