Creating Notes for Accounts

I have a hopefully very simple app requirement: I need to make an app that will allow me to create a Note where I can set the Regarding field on the Note to an Account record. I've done a lot of searching online, and have found no helpful answers for this. I've been able to successfully create an app that creates a note in CRM. But I get tripped up when trying to associate the note to an Account (or any record at all for that matter). Has anyone had success with this? If yes, what did you do?

Re: Creating Notes for Accounts

Just to follow up: I was able to figure this out. Refer to this link for instructions https://www.inogic.com/blog/2018/07/create-records-in-dynamics-365-with-canvas-powerapp/

Also, please refer to this article for an issue I had setting the objecttypecode on the note record: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Common-Data-Service-for-Apps/Ambiguous-binding-present-on-Patch/...

And also refer to this MS documentation on the all-important PATCH function: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-patch

IMO, the instructions aren't that great on the Inogic site, but it's enough to get you going. If anyone has detailed questions, let me know. Thanks!

Re: Creating Notes for Accounts

Hi @pfrederick

Could you please share more details of your situation?

Do you want to configure note?

Could you please reference this?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/portals/configure-notes

Best Regards.

Yumia

Re: Creating Notes for Accounts

Here's how it should work, in my opinion. Screen 1 of the canvas app requires the user to search for an account. Once the account is found and selected, Screen 2 will allow them to add a new note that will be attached to the Account. That's it. See the two attachments. Attachment with the number 1 is screen 1. Attachment with the number 2 is screen two. The image attachments are just a concept of how I want it to work. I currently don't have a working solution. Hope that helps to clarify.

Re: Creating Notes for Accounts

Hi,

I have been trying to do the same and have run into an error stating that a polymorphic field is found, not a GUID.

I have found others with this issue, but in this thread it claims to be a known limitation with no fix. However I know that notes have a slightly different table structure to other activities and thought that this might be a reason it seems people have had success. https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Expressions-and-Formulas/CDS-Patch-polymorphic-field-regarding-r...

Does anyone know a reason I would be getting this using notes?

Thanks,

Niklas
