Creating net-new item in SharePoint

Hi all,

Recently I've been playing around with a somewhat basic app designed to copy input from open text fields and copy them into a sharepoint list item (create a new item).

I created a button that is meant to copy the values from the text input fields into the new sharepoint item. Here is the Flow I created:

Simple enough - I wrote in some data for 3 fields ("test") and then did 'ask in PowerApps' for the other 4 required fields.

When I went back into the app, I successfully saw the button Run feature asking me for the corresponding fields that I had 'asked in PowerApps' in flow - each of the fields below are text input fields.

For some reason, this isn't working - I've tried adding .Selected, .SelectedText, etc, after all of these but I still am not succeeding. The full error I'm getting is Invalid Argument type (Control). Expecting a Text value instead. However, adding .Text/.SelectedText isn't working and it isn't prompting me to add anything else once I put a . after each selection. 

I believe there is an easy fix here, I just can't figure out what it is!

I will try something basic first - I assume these are Text controls - if so you need

   SLNLockedField_1.Text, 
   ShortDescriptionField_1.Text, 
   BusinessJustificationField_1.Text, 
   MarketingServiceLockedlnput_1.Text
)

Are these SLMLockedField_1, ShortDescriptionField_1, ... MarketingServiceLockedInput_1 all Text Input boxes in your canvas app?

If there SLMLockedField_1, ShortDescriptionField_1, ... MarketingServiceLockedInput_1 are all Text Input boxes in your canvas app, you should modify your Run formula as below:

'PowerAppsbutton-5'.Run(
                        SLMLockedField_1.Text, 
                        ShortDescriptionField_1.Text,
                        BusinessJustificationField_1.Text,
                        MarketingServiceLockedInput_1.Text
)

If some of these SLMLockedField_1, ShortDescriptionField_1, ... MarketingServiceLockedInput_1 are Dropdown box, in above Run formula, you need to reference the selected value from the corresponding Dropdown box using the following formula:

Dropdownbox.Selected.Value

Please take a try with above solution, check if the issue is solved.

Hi,

I've tried both .Text and .SelectedText for each of these values. They are all Text Input fields.

The problem is that even when using .SelectedText or .Text I'm still getting the error.

It looks like adding .Text did not take, and now is giving me an error Nae isn't valid. This identifier isn't recognized. But that's a result of adding .Text.

Hi @Costanti ,

Text boxes will always have .Text as the reference.

Dropdowns/ComboBoxes will be either .Selected.Value for a Choice field, .Selected.Result for a Distinct filer or .Selected.FieldName (actual name of field presented).

I cannot see your controls, but one of the above will work if you are simply presenting values from your screen controls to a Flow.

Thank you for your response! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to look at this.

I suppose my confusion on using .Text is due to the fact that I had another flow that worked (taking the value from a text input field into flow) - though it is a text field, putting the value in ' ' succeeded in giving me a working value in flow.

The example above is more theory than the actual problem that I'm facing here, which I fortunately have succeeded in fixing thanks to your help.

Though .Selected.Value wasn't working, .SelectedText.Value did work! I just kept trying a number of combinations and that one took.

Have you solved your problem?

The TextInput1 formula would return the control itself, the TextInput1.Text formula would return the text value you typed within this TextInput box. So within your 'Flow Name'.Run(...) function, please use the TextInput1.Text formula to reference the Text Input box value.

For Dropdown box, I think the Dropdown1.Selected.Value and Dropdown1.SelectedText.Value are both OK. They both return the selected value within the Dropdown box.

If the issue still exists, please consider re-generate a new app based on your data source, then add your flow connection into your canvas app, try the 'Flow Name'.Run(...) function again, check if the issue is solved.
