Custom data view?

Hi everyone,

I've succesfully built my first app in PowerApps and am getting great feedback on it... a Q&A app for a a large project that I am working on. It is based on a SharePoint List, and while it took some navigation and help from the community, I was able to get the app to do everything I wanted it to!

I am building a second app based on the same master list of questions, hoewever this app has a different audience (each app is presented to a different department in our company). In order to keep all of my questions and categorization in one place, I am feeding the app off of the same master list, but wanted to see if it was possible to "hide" some of the category fields shown in a drop down.

For example, I have a category list that includes: General Project, New Website, Customer Service, Sales. I'd like to have a dropdown list for one department that only shows: General Project, New Webstie, Customer Service... and then on my other app show: General Project, New Website, Sales. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance for your help! 🙂

Re: Custom data view?

Hi krs10s6,

You could consider to combine User function within the code, or you could also use the connection with Office 365 users.

About User function, please see this documentation for a reference:
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/function-user/

About Office 365 users connection in PowerApps, please see this documentations:
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/connection-office365-users/

In my case, I create a connection from PowerApps to Office 365 users.
Then add a Dropdown control, and set its Item property as:

If(Office365Users.MyProfile().Department="SalesDepartment",["test1","test2","test3"],Office365Users.MyProfile().Department="HR",["test2","test3","test4"],Office365Users.MyProfile().Department="DevelopDepartment",["test5","test6","test7"])

It works fine on my side. I share the app with group members, it also works on shared user side.

And about If function, please check this link for a reference:
https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/function-if/

Hope it could be a reference for you.

Best regards,
Mabel Mao

Re: Custom data view?

Hi @v-yamao-msft

I like this idea a lot, however unfortunately our department setup in our organization is more complicated than just "sales department." Is it possible to create a connection to an O365 Distribution List or create my own group?

Thanks again for your help, Mabel! 🙂

Re: Custom data view?

Hi krs10s6,

I am afraid that Office 365 Distribution List is currently not supported yet, I haven’t seen a similar thread on the PowerApps Ideas Forum, please consider to create an idea so it might be considered as a future release.
