Customize edit form

I have two different data tables (prime and subprime contractors) in a PostgreSQL Azure instance. My gallery shows lists of contracts by contract ID. On the view form screen I have a display form that shows detailed information about the prime contract (from prime table) with an icon that sends the user to an edit form for that data, and a table that shows all subcontractors (from subprime table) on the contract. I need to create another edit form that a user can enter new subcontractor information for the contract that has been selected. What I've run into is that when I add a new edit form (source subprime table) on a new screen is that the datacards do not load with a default text input or an "Update" properties field in the advanced tab. Any advice??
