Daily data feed into One drive for Business to use as data source for Power Apps

Hello All,

 

1. We would like to sync/update/append the data in the Excel/CSV file in One drive for business everyday into a master file. Is it possible?

2. Is it possible to automate the conversion of excel to the table to use it as a data source?

Do you want to use Excel in OneDrive for business as the data source of Power Apps?

 

Yes, you could. Please reference to below link of official docs to know the whole steps of add an Excel file in OneDrive for business into PowerApps as the data source:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/get-started-create-from-blank

 

CSV files are not supported to be used as data source since they could not be formatted as tables. Excel worksheets need to be formatted as tables before you create a canvas app based on data in worksheets. Please see below doc to know how to format a table in Excel:

But you would be supposed to know there are some limitations on using Excel in cloud storage services as data source:

  1. Non-delegable. Since you mentioned you would like to use the file as a master file with daily data feed, I assume it would be a large data set after a few days. Please reference to the delegation doc to know more:

  1. You will need to share the Excel to everyone who are supposed to use the App. If the file is open (by anyone be shared with) no one could use the App to update or modify records in it. In addition, people who be shared with could modify the file itself since it need to be shared with full permissions.

 

For your second question, could you please share more details about your scenario? Do you want to automate generating Excel worksheets and format them into tables?

 

If you do, I’m afraid there is no way to achieve your need by now. You could create Excel worksheet in Power Apps through MS Flow automatically but still need to format it into a table in Excel.
