Data Type PersonName: Problems when fields with this type are set to "Required"

The data type "PersonName" is stored in the background as three subfields: givenname, middlename, surname. If a field with this data type is set to "Required" all the subfield become required. This is a problem when e.g. importing data, because each line in a importfile must have all these subfields filled. Even when e person has no middlename.

If the names of persons in an entity must be required, the only workaround is to use seperate fields with data type Text instead of PersonName and set only some of the fields as required.

Hi Michael_H,

Thanks for your feedback.

When we set a data type PersonName as required, all the subfields become required. I assume that it would be convenient if we could also configure the three subfields with Required according to our needs when setting the data type PersonName as “Required”.

I haven’t seen a similar idea at PowerApps Ideas Forum, please consider to create a new one at here. I will also collect and report it from my side and suggest other customers who have the same request to vote your idea at here.

As a temporary workaround, please use a Text data type instead of PersonName.

Best regards,
Mabel Mao
