Date Format

How hard is it to implement a region-based format, or even a 'format' property on date fields?

The majority of the world uses either dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd. This isn't rocket science; add this basic functionality.

Even the classic control has a format property - why upgrade the control-set and REMOVE features??

As @RahulAnsari mentioned, it is that easy to display as text.  Here are the two desired formats you mentioned:  

dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd

Do you need this formatted another way for a date calculation or something?  What was the problem you encountered with formatting as text?
