Deep Link to Gallery Item, Unnecessary Context Variable

Hi,

I followed a great guide for deep linking to a gallery item found here:

https://www.helptheusers.com/blog/?p=479

Basically it goes like this:

Set the OnStart to:

If(!IsBlank(Param(“ID”)), Set(varRecordToOpen,First(Filter(Books,ID=Value(Param(“ID”))))))

Set the gallery OnSelect to:

Set(varRecordToOpen,BrowseGallery1.Selected);Navigate(DetailScreen1,None)

Set the gallery arrow OnSelect to:

Select(Parent)

Set the form Item to:

varRecordToOpen

Create a timer on the home screen with duration 60, visible false and AutoStart true. Set its OnTimerEnd to:

If(Not(IsBlank(Param(“ID”))),Navigate(DetailScreen1, Cover,{device:LookUp(Books, ID = Value(Param(“ID”)))}))

This all works great, so if you are struggling with deep linking to a gallery item, I recommend this tutorial.

Here's my question for the community however. Isn't the context variable on the navigate for the timer unneeded? {device:LookUp(Books, ID = Value(Param(“ID”)))} sets a variable called device, that isn't used for anything else. I tried removing it and it seems to work just fine.

Before I put it into production without the context variable, is there something I am misunderstanding? Does anyone know why the author might have included it in the first place?

Thanks
