Distinct Filter with Choices selection

Hi Everyone,

 

I am busy creating a Time capturing App with the following details;

 

Data source:

  • SharePoint Lists
    • List1:  Contains Company names under the Title column
    • List2:  Contains Company Sites under the Title column with a Lookup Column called Project Company, looking at List1:Title, which then has the Project Company linked to the Company Site.
    • List3:  Contains Type of Project under the Title column with a Lookup Column called Project Company, looking at List1:Title, with the Project Company linked to the Project Type.
    • List4:  Contains the Project Deliverable under the Title column with a Lookup Column called Project Company, looking at List1:Title, with Project Company linked to the Deliverable/s.
    • List5:  Contains Leave Type under Title with a Lookup Column called Project Deliverable, looking at List4:Title, with the Project Deliverable "Leave" linked to the Leave Type.

Then I have a SharePoint List (Timesheet) with lookup columns linked to each data source list to be able to use cascading lookups in the PowerApps App and store the data selected and entered by the User.

 

On the [Project Type] -> Combobox -> Items, I have the following formula;

 

 

Filter(
    Choices([@'Timesheet Testing'].Project_x0020_Type),
    Value in Filter(
        Timesheet_Testing_Project_Type,
        Project_Company.Value = cbProjCompany.Selected.Value
    ).Title
)

 

 

and the result is;

which then saves the selection (no matter which one) in the Timesheet List.

 

I can add Distinct to the Formula to get rid of the duplicates and this is where I have a problem;

The formula I use is;

 

Distinct(Filter(
    Choices([@'Timesheet Testing'].Project_x0020_Type),
    Value in Filter(
        Timesheet_Testing_Project_Type,
        Project_Company.Value = cbProjCompany.Selected.Value
    ).Title
), Value)

 

and have to change the 'DisplayFields' and 'SearchFields' from ["Value"] to ["Result"] which doesn't show the duplicates anymore;

When submitting the Form, it doesn't store the selected value as when it does without Distinct().

 

What am I missing here or where am I going wrong.

So , you could try this formula on Items property of combo box control:

Although their values are the same, they are actually different records (they have their own ID).

So I don’t quite understand why you use the distinct() function.

Hello! Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I've been having almost the exact same issue, although seemingly less complex. I'd appreciate any help. The closest I've been able to get is through this solution.

 

I have two lists:

Main list: Dummy Enforcement Workflow

Lookup reference list: Contact List Conversion

 

In the lookup reference list, there is a column with employee names, all of which have duplicates. I do not want to see duplicate values in the items in the data card that references the Contact list, and I still want the SP list form to save the selected values.

When I simply use distinct(choices(['@Dummy Enforcement Workflow']),Values), it will display the unique items if I change the field properties to select the 'Results' output. However, the app will not save the selected items to the list.

I understand that the results are in text, and the list is expecting a record. I believe that is where my problems arise. I have tried using Patch in the OnSelect Property, to no avail.

 

When I use the below formulas, I get three rows added to the list when I select a contact. One of the three gives me what I would expect. However, I also get two other blank rows that I do not want.
