Drop Down value removed when taking a picture

Hi Power Apps Community

Scenario: A user may select an option from the drop down control in a Gallery. A user may also take a picture of the item from the Gallery using the Camera control

Issue: When I select to take a picture, the value which was selected in the drop down control gets removed.

Note: Using the AddColumns function, I have added the Collection - which stores the image taken in Power Apps, to the SharePoint List which is used to reference the Gallery.

When I remove the AddColumns function and select the same button which captures the image, then everything seems to work fine. However, this means that no image is taken.

I have tried to re-publish the app, but that does not work

I would really appreciate any assistance on this.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Data_Enthusiast ,

Yes, you have changed it in the collect.

Try this on the Camera OnSelect - i have used the same syntax to send over 30,000 photos to a Flow to store them in a Library. It produces Text in a format called dataUri, which can also be stored in a SharePoint Multi-line Text field. There is no need to store the name twice.

ClearCollect(
   CameraPhoto,
   Camera2_4.Photo
)

Then on the Patch

Patch(
   'SP List',
   Defaults('SP List'),
   {
      Title: Title3.Text,
      ImageTaken: First(CameraPhoto).Url
   }
)

To test the theory, put a label on the screen - make it a good size with the Text First(CameraPhoto).Url (note the case) and see if it has text in it when you take a photo.

Hi @WarrenBelz

I went through your post and made the relevant update to my AddColumns function:

AddColumns('SP List', "ItemPhoto", LookUp(CameraPhoto, FileName = Item, Photo), "ItemDropDownValue", false)

With the Default value of the Drop Down being:

ThisItem.ItemDropDownValue

Unfortunately, this did not work as when an image is taken, the values in the drop down control are reset.

Thanks @Data_Enthusiast ,

That is not a collection - you are simply adding a "dummy" column to a gallery based on a list (which is still unbound and actually only attached to itself).

The whole gallery needs to be based a collection, that way you can Patch the drop-down value to it and then refer to the updated collection value you have just patched when the collection (and gallery) refreshes. This is a huge workaround that you should not have to do, but if you don't want your control to reset, it is either this way, or initiate the Patch from outside the gallery (button or similar).

Also look at my other post on the camera.

I will be offline shortly due to time zone, but will pick up your response int he morning.

Hi @WarrenBelz

Thank you for the responses.

I have attempted the Patch from outside the Gallery using the ForAll function - will continue to investigate.

I will continue to investigate and post back on this thread as soon as I come across something.

Thank you again.

Hi @WarrenBelz

This worked for the string value of the photo being stored in SharePoint - thank you 🙂

Just trying to figure out the resetting issue.

Hi @WarrenBelz

I performed a test by taking away all Patch related functions from the app page.

The only functions on the page were from the Gallery:

AddColumns('SP List', "FilePhoto", LookUp(CameraPhoto, FileName = File, Photo), "ConditionDropDown", false)

And for the Camera button:

Collect(CameraPhoto, {Photo: Camera2.Stream, FileName: Title3.Text});

Unfortunately, the issue still persists.

It seems like when the Collection is updated with a value (ie. the new picture taken), it resets the Gallery automatically.

Another test I performed was capturing the pictures first and then selecting the Drop Down values. This seemed to work. Unfortunately though, this will not be seen as an intuitive design if you are capturing for 30+ items.

Thanks @Data_Enthusiast ,

Back online now (6:30 am here).

I can still see your old code on the camera - is that working now?

For the gallery, can you please send me a screenshot and what the process is? Are your viewing photos in there (they will all be the same as you have one reference for the photo).

Hi @WarrenBelz

Haha! about 11pm my side.

Sure...

ImageExample.JPG

As seen above, you can take an image using the Camera icon, and then the image taken will be displayed under the Image Taken column, using the Image control.

Everything for the Camera seems to be working in order - in terms of taking different pictures and capturing the image in a SP List.

Thanks @Data_Enthusiast ,

I actually see your conundrum now - you need the gallery to be based on the list to see the pictures. There is really only one solution - as "clunky" as it is. Make a text field in your list for the Yes/No, then bind the control to this (ThisItem.YesNoField). You do not have to display it anywhere other than here and patch to this the value of the drop-down.  That way, it will show the last value you saved in the gallery.

Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

Hi @WarrenBelz

I tried this, but it unfortunately did not work.

The Gallery is referencing a "Master" SP List - dimension base data for the product catalog.

The Patch is to the "transaction" based list.

It seems to be the appending of the Collection and Gallery which might be causing the reset.
