Dropdown menu falls offscreen

I have an issue with my app, where when a user clicks into a dropdown menu, the menu opens upwards off-screen so the user is unable to see the search bar or some of the items (I know the attached pic doesn't show it clearly, but there are items above the black line that should be able to be selected).

My 2 idea's on workarounds for this, is to either force the menu to drop downwards all the time, or to restrict the size of the dropdown menu so only 5-6 items are shown before the user needs to scroll down.

Is there are way to implement one of these 2 options? or an alternative method to fix the issue?
