Dynamic Download Link

Hey guys, I have a Flow triggered in my app on click of a button that exports dynamic HTML text from my the app, converts it to PDF, saves in Sharepoint and then downloads that PDF to a local folder. While this does what I need, I don't really like this solution from an end user standpoint. The user has to know beforehand what folder the file was saved in.

Any ideas on how I could use the Download function to come up with a better solution? There would be multiple files in sharepoint so I would need some way to dynamically get the URL of the file that was most recently added to sharepoint. Not sure if this is better asked in the Flow forum, but I thought I'd start here.

Thanks!

Hi @stephenkln :

Judging from the screenshots you provided, it seems that there is a problem with flow when it is running.I checked the relevant information of flow, maybe this post can help you:

I suggest you recreate a flow.

Update: I was able to create the URL in Flow. I think I figured out how to pass it back to PowerApps-- I followed the instructions here:
https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/return-data-to-powerapps/

But, the Download function keeps complaining that I'm referencing a record rather than a hyperlink. Any ideas around this?

Hi @stephenkln :

Could you show me the "download" formula?

The value of flow.Run() is a record. If you need to refer to a specific return value, you need to use flow.Run().TheSpecificField.

I've made a test and it worked. Here is my solution for your reference:

1\My flow(Save the photos I took in the App to OneDrive, and then return the URL of the file to the APP)

1.JPG

2\Add a button and set it's OnSelect property to:

Download(Downloadpic.Run(Camera1.Photo).weburi)

I think this link will help you a lot:

Hey @v-bofeng-msft

Here is my basic formula for to run the flow:

ExporttoPDFfromPowerApps.Run(HTMLHealthRecord.HtmlText,"Health_Record_" & 'Employee List'.Selected.LastName & "-" & 'Employee List'.Selected.FirstName & "_" & 'Employee List'.Selected.EmployeeId & "_" & Today() & "_" & CountRows(FileNames)+1);

It calls for values for two variables in flow--the first is html text from another screen. The rest is a filename. The Flow takes the HTML text and filename and generates a pdf in sharepoint.

After adding a step to my flow that generated the URL to the file just created, I had attempted the following in PowerApps for the download piece:

Set(varDownloadLink,ExporttoPDFfromPowerApps.Run(HTMLHealthRecord.HtmlText,"Health_Record_" & 'Employee List'.Selected.LastName & "-" & 'Employee List'.Selected.FirstName & "_" & 'Employee List'.Selected.EmployeeId & "_" & Today() & "_" & CountRows(FileNames)+1).download_link);

Download(varDownloadLink)

When I do this, I get an error saying that Download cannot take a record value.

Hi @stephenkln :

The code looks fine.Could you show me a screenshot of your flow?

Best Regards,

Bof

Hi @stephenkln :

This flow lacks an action that returns the value of the URL to the app.

Best Regards,

@v-bofeng-msft Thanks for the reminder. I did have that step, but I had deleted it when things weren't working and had forgotten to put it back. I've added it back in, but that still does not seem to solve the problem. I'm getting this error message after executing the flow:

stephenkln_0-1596544645520.png

Some quick troubleshooting indicates that the flow ran successfully up to the last step. PowerApps seems to point to the code in the download link variable as the problem:

stephenkln_1-1596545371711.png

Note that prior to executing, the above code does not have any red indicating errors.

Hi @stephenkln :

Have you checked the running history of flow? Does it return the URL of the specified file?

Bof

@v-bofeng-msft Yes I have tested the flow repeatedly and verified that it runs successfully and outputs the file URL. It's failing on the last step where it passes the URL back to power apps with the 502 bad gateway error I posted before.
