End User's data doesn't save

Hello Community.  Newbie here. 

I have built a canvas app.  It tracks the time a user spends on a project which I use for billing and pricing purposes.   The app connects to a SharePoint list.  

I built the app, starting from data in the SharePoint list.  The app uses a form that has dropdown and other controls.  Where the user clicks the 'submitform' checkmark, the data is saved to the SharePoint List.   It works fine for me.  I am the global administrator and have access to everything.

I shared the app with my one employee.  I have watched him use the app through the screen-share function of Teams.  The app works for him perfectly.  Except that the SharePoint doesn't collect the data.  

Where does his data go?

Previously, I did not give permission to him to access the SharePoint on which the data is stored.  I realize now that was a mistake and have now provided access.  In the Admin Centre, he has a license for Microsoft 365 Business Standard And Power Automate Free.  I know that he has access to the SharePoint, because I can see it in his screen share on Teams.

What am I missing?  Where does his data go?

1) As additional troubleshooting step, now that the correct access is there, please have the target user clear cache and cookies on the browser and try it again. If this is a mobile device, on Android or iOS try having the data storage for the Native App cleared (and also reinstall it for good measure). On Windows Phone, uninstalling and reinstalling Power Apps Native Mobile app is the only way to perform the equivalent operation.

 

2) Check if above helps and self-heals the issue. If this did not work, try unsharing the app, removing all the Connections under make.powerapps.com -> Connections - repeat #1 on your own browser, then open the app for editing. then re-establish the Connections when prompted by popup, then save and publish the app, then have the target repeat #1, then reshare the app, then see if this helps.

 

3) If #1 or #2 worked, it should usually not be needed to do this again - it is just some troubleshooting steps in case that may help resolve some common underlying problems. In the case neither of the above worked, please reply again, and also just double check one more time that the access really is the same - please also check the Security Roles the User has in Dataverse as well as the App Scope - yes it is a SharePoint List, but if there is something wrong with these it may still cause the issue. Finally, check once more the licenses just to be sure. If you happen to have a spare license that is at the higher level like Power Apps Plan 2, please try it as troubleshooting step to assign it and try #1, #2 as well, and then try to un-assign it (because the licenses you specified should be enough, as we suspect you are not using any Premium Connectors - though please double check about this as well in case).

As you've learned, the user needs permission to run the app and ALSO whatever level of permission is appropriate to the data source. For example, if they will use the app to simply view the data from the SharePoint list, they only need Read permission to the site. If they will be using it to create items in the list, they need (at least) Contribute permission to it. Making them a Member of the site (or the Team, if the site is associated with a Team) will give him Edit permission, which is Contribute plus a bit more. 

Assuming he has the appropriate permissions, the items he creates will be created in the list in SharePoint. If he doesn't have permission to create items in the list, the app should throw an error message of some kind since it will not be able to save the data. If you can share a screenshot of the data source(s) for the app, as well as what's in the OnSelect property of that "check" icon, that may help to understand the issue.

Thanks @poweractivate  for the very fast and detailed answer.  It didn't re-heal when we each cleared our cache and cookies.  But it did fix on resetting the Connections. 

I have to admit, as a Newbie, it is really scary to delete something like a Connection when I know that I don't fully understand how this will fix the problem and don't know what else might change.  But I crossed my fingers and followed your advice.  It worked! And better yet, I learned a whole bunch more about the plumbing behind the app.

 

Thanks @ChadVKealey for the clarity on Permission levels in SharePoint.  This area is still a bit of a mystery to me.  Thanks for clearing the fog!  Your answer helped me understand the 'plumbing' part.
