Enforce 'Sentence Case'

How do I enforce 'Sentence Case' in a form datacard?

This is what could be used in a Label or Text Input.

     Proper(Source.Text)

Where would the above go in a datacard field to enforce 'Sentence Case' data entry?

Yes, just place this formula in the Update property of the Datacard : Proper(UpdateFormLastNmFld.Text)

So, normally you would have the accounting of the IsBlank in your toggle validator.

So, in that Default formula of the toggle, something like :

   !(IsBlank(TextInputControlFromDataCard.Text) || IsMatch(TextInputControlFromDataCard.Text, Email))

This will be true if the textinput has something in it and it is not a valid email.

It will be false if the textinput is blank (matching to email is irrelevant at that point)

Then, your BorderColor can be based off of that formula as well.

If( !(IsBlank(TextInputControlFromDataCard.Text) || IsMatch(TextInputControlFromDataCard.Text, Email)), Red, Black)

You cannot use the function to enforce the entry, but you can use the function to submit in Proper case.

So, in your DataCard Update property, you can use Proper(yourDatacardValueControl.Text)

I hope this is helpful for you.

Doe it matter that 've already got the following in the Update of the data card?

     UpdateFormLastNmFld.Text

The content of the field defaults to existing language on the list, and also allows the User to edit that same content.

How do I merge the two requirements so that any edits are updated as 'Sentence Case'?

For instance First and Last name; the User may be access the edit form to update the employees name.

The data default first and last into the appropriate fields.

Only the last name is misspelled.

The User updates the last name, but in lower case.

The desire is, when the data is updated to the list it should be as 'Sentence Case', so that when that same data is pulled down in a Gallery on another screen it appears as 'Sentence Case'.

How do I force these two formats in labels or text input boxes?

AA0000

and...

TEXT-YY-MM

Again, you can't really force a format directly in a TextInput, but you can have a label display in any format you want and you can set the Update property of a datacard to format the values the way you want.

I can't really provide any advice on the two samples you stated as I have no idea what they are coming from.  Are you saying something like a user enters "123" and you want "AA0123" to be stored?

Or are you talking about validation - User enters "AA0000" and it is good to submit, but if they enter "AA00001111" it is invalid and should not submit?

The latter; if the User doesn't enter the UniqueID formatted as AA0000 (cap letter, cap letter, four numbers), an error or red boarder or something happens requiring the User to correct the entry. This is with the understanding that Proper...would take care of the 'case' issue, who do I ensure it is entered into the field the way it looks above?

Same for the Class Number; if User does not enter as TEXT-YY-MM (i.e. - SFF2-21-02) then...

Yes, so this can easily be done.  There are a couple of ways to go about it.

I did a video on validation. It focuses more on the validation of a custom form (i.e. one you create without the form control).

Since you are using the form control, there is another method (the video refers to form validation also, but more in the context of the required fields).  I have a new video that I have not completed yet which focuses on EditForm validation....if only I could find more hours in a day to complete.

Here is the general process...NOTE: there are a lot of moving parts in this, so follow closely.

In this scenario we are validating a column/field that is Required and MUST match a pattern.

1) Let's start with your SubmitForm - Where ever you have your SubmitForm function, change it to this:

UpdateContext({lclOneShot:!yourFormName.Valid});
If(yourFormName.Valid, SubmitForm(yourFormName))

This will give us the ability to "one shot" the validation.  This means that the error message will not show up until the user tries to submit rather than being on the screen all the time.

2) On the DataCard for the column that should be "AA0000", Set the Required Property Formula to :  true

3) On the Error Message label that you have in the Datacard, set the Text to whatever message you want it to say ex. "Your number is invalid" and then set the Visible property to: Parent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit && !Parent.Valid && lclOneShot

4) In the Update property of the DataCard, set the formula to: Match(YourDataCardValueControlName.Text "^[A-Z]{2}\d{4}$").FullMatch

How this works is that the Update property will be blank unless the user types in the correct format (2 uppers and 4 numbers).  Since that will be blank, the fact that the datacard is required will cause the form to be invalid until the pattern is entered.  We then use the Visible property on the Error label to turn on the control if we are editing (New or Edit) and the form is invalid and we have tried to submit once.

I hope that all is clear and makes sense.

I'm and using label and text input fields and Galleries, and I'm using Forms with fields.

Just more of my mash-up as I learn.

Before I get started does the above change anything you've just suggested?

I have a double form process. There is a Form the User adds their information into; it has a 'Submit for Approval' button, that when clicked Patches the info to a NewMemberList and kicks out and email to the approve.

All of that information is already in the button your and asking to me to add -

Can I add your 'UpdateContext' to all of what is currently there and it not have an adverse affect on what's already there?
