Excel file not loading PowerApps info.

Hello all, I just started in this great Power Apps world and, as a good student, I think I am trying to accomplish something a little out of my knowledge.

I created a Power App to play Secret Santa in my office, I struggled with the random selection of names for a bit but I got it working eventually. I have that information, the names, on an Excel with one other column named "SecretSanta".

If "SecretSanta" is blank, you can get randomly selected.... but once you get selected, I can't figure out how to upload that you've been picked into the Excel (so you don't get picked again).

I tried "SubmitForm(FormName)" at first, but I believe I am missing information to tell Excel what to take from the data I am feeding it with and where to send it: for a moment I thought it wasn't working because I am using 3 different data sources and  wasn't specifically saying "send this information to this data source", but I read PowerApps knows where to send what information.

I've made different apps where the information I submit on the PowerApp goes directly to the source, same happens when I use sharepoint but in this case it's just not doing it.

Read about Patch but couldn't make it work properly, also tried Removing the names that had already been sorted, but it's not working.

I am not a coder, so there's 89% chances I am just writing the functions wrong, but everything else on the app works fine: random selection, navigation between several screens, and information being submitted to 2 sharepoint lists.

If you understood what I meant by all this banter: Help? 😣

Re: Excel file not loading PowerApps info.

Hi @glittertears ,

To check which data source is the information inside an edit form being sent to with SubmitForm function, you need to check on the DataSource property of the edit form.

If you have the data source set to your SP list, but you want to update the data to excel table, then you will need to use Patch function.

Since you are new to PowerApps, please explain what you are trying to achieve with these 3 data sources in detail and I will tell you the formulas. But please attach some sample data of the data sources then explain with them. Also tell the columns types for SharePoint list. Some screenshots would be even better.

Do mask sensitive data before uploading.

Mona
