Existing textbox change on dropdown select

Hi, wondering if anyone can help?

I have a simple app that pulls an asset collection from an excel spreadsheet, it contains lists of sites with existing assets, the sheet also contains various tables that are linked to drop downs.

I want to update the values of datacards within the app if a dropdown is used.

For example, the control unit datacard below already contains data (Pacom 8002) and is displayed, I want this to change and update only if the dropdown is used.

I'm really struggling and cant quite work it out.

On the DataCardValue of interest, put something along the lines of this in Default Property:

If(!IsBlank(DataCardValueOther.Selected.Value),"WhatYouWantHere","SomethingElseHere")

(pseudo-formula - check above and put values that make sense for you)

Here is example:

Default Property of DataCardValue of Interest -

If(!IsBlank(DataCardValue3.Selected.Value),"Something","None")

Where DataCardValue3 is part of Data Card which is Dropdown.

Check if it helps @Anonymous

Thanks for taking a look, unfortunately it didn't work.

So now the datacardvalue is replaced with "Test1", but I want that to display the contents of the excel cell (which could be blank) and only change on a selection from the drop down below.

@Anonymous

So you have a Dropdown custom in the same Datacard.

OK in that case try like this:

If(!IsBlank(Dropdown1.Selected.Value),"Something","None")

Yes it did work though, even in your example.

However,

"want that to display the contents of the excel cell (which could be blank) and only change on a selection from the drop down below."

That part I presume you can figure out for yourself and replace "Test1" with that.

In case you want help with even that too, please tell me more details about your scenario with the "Excel cell" and maybe I could check on it.

Thanks so much for your help so far, really appreciate it.

To give some context here's an example

Wayne_H_0-1634798690749.png

So the Table to the right is the sites with some existing data, this is pulled into the PowerApp, as you can see some data exists for 'Alarm Control Unit'.  The tables to the left are the dropdown lists, I want the app to update the 'Alarm Control Unit' cells if (and only if) a different panel is selected from the corresponding dropdown.

@Anonymous

You can try something like this - it is a rough example so you can try and make it make sense for you and see if it works:

On the DataCardValue itself (the one you just tried it on)

If(!IsBlank(Dropdown4.Selected.Value) && Dropdown4.Selected.Value <> Parent.Default, Dropdown4.Selected.Value, "")

 Above essentially means, if the Dropdown4 selected value is not blank AND that same  Dropdown4 selected value IS NOT EQUAL TO the default value that is already on that record (i.e. we want to know if it is "not  the same value as the one originally set" - whether the value was changed or not - so OnSelect for the dropdown is really not as correct of a logic as doing something like this instead where the Datacard Default is checked since that Parent.Default, or the Datacard Default itself, usually should contain the value that was originally on that field), then go ahead and put the  Dropdown4 selected value  inside this DataCardValue now. Otherwise, just put an empty string in there instead if any of those two conditions are false (i.e. if it is blank or if the value is same as it was originally, just use empty string). If you want you can try to put Blank() instead of "", but you might get an error - if you don't get and error, Blank() would be technically better and make more sense instead of "" there.

The above is a rough formula and is not tested with a specific example, please try it and if there is anything wrong try replacing some things with what makes more sense for your case.

Check if something like above helps.

Ive played with that and simply can't get it to work.  Im wondering if I should change the dropdowns on select property to update the datavalue?

@Anonymous what happens when you try it?

Try the following simpler variations with test data see if anything helps below and where it stops working:

(all of these should be on DataCardValue Default like you tried before)

If(!IsBlank(Dropdown4.Selected.Value), "It's Not Blank!!", "It's Definitely Blank!!!")
If(!IsBlank(Dropdown4.Selected.Value), Dropdown4.Selected.Value, "It's Definitely Blank!!!")
If(!IsBlank(Dropdown4.Selected.Value), Text(Dropdown4.Selected.Value), "It's Definitely Blank!!!")
If(Dropdown4.Selected.Value <> "WillNeverHappen", "This Never Happens", "This is Always Happening")
If(Dropdown4.Selected.Value <> Parent.Default, "This Never Happens", "This is Always Happening")
If(Dropdown4.Selected.Value <> Parent.Default, Parent.Default, "This is Always Happening")

and finally try:

If(true, "This Always Happens", "This Never Happens")
If(true, Parent.Default, "This Never Happens")
If(true, Text(Parent.Default), "This Never Happens")

Check if any of the above helps point in the right direction why it is not working.

Also the OnSelect should just have false in it too - if it doesn't, make sure it is so it's not interfering and doing multiple things at the same time.

Thanks again for your help, however still not progressing, everyone produces the following error:

@Anonymous instead of .Value use .'Alarm Control Unit' like you did before- does it work better then?
