Filter Many to Many Relationship and Dynamics 365

Hi Folks,

I'm struggling since a while with the following problem.

We have a PowerApp that gets from Dynamics 365 (CDS) as Input context the Worker ID (cdm_workerid). Filtering on the worker ID I need the Job Positions and the Department for the selected worker.

Is this possible? Can somebody give me a hint?

Relationship model attached

Thank you in advance

Alex

P.S. I know this blogpost but still I don't get it...

Hi @Speed1 ,

Could you please share more information to elaborate more on how does your app work?

Since the 'Worker' has 1:N relationship with 'Position Worker Assignment', I would suggest you use a new gallery1 to display all related 'Position Worker Assignment' records of selected Worker.

Set Gallery1.Items:

WorkerGallery.Selected.'Position Worker Assignment'

Then Add a Label in Gallery1 to display Job Position, Set Text property:

ThisItem.'Job Position'.'Job Position'

Finally, Add another Label to display Department, Set Text property:

LookUp('Position Worker Assignment',GUIDField=ThisItem.GUIDField,Department).Department
//GUID Field is the Unique Identifier Type of filed in 'Position Worker Assignment' entity.

Hope this helps.

Hi @v-siky-msft,

thank you for your response.

This app is embedded in Dynamics 365 and will get the worker ID as Input context (like described here -> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/fin-ops/get-started/embed-power-apps#build...)

The App collects some information (like fullname, employment, birthdate, birthlocation, department!!, job position...) and via a button the user can trigger the contract creation. The app pass the collected information to Power Automate and a collaborator contract will be generated.

The first 2 suggestions works very well, thank you very much.

I don't get the Lookup. Can you explain the GUID Field? Is this the relationship field of the two Tables. So this one should do the trick?

LookUp('Position Worker Assignment','Job Positions'.'Job Position'=ThisItem.'Job Position',Departments).Department

With this one, I get the error: The function 'LookUp' has some invalid arguments.

Hi @Speed1 ,

GUID field is the Unique Identifier type field in 'Position Worker Assignment' entity, and is the unique index of the entity.  For example: Account Field is the GUID field of Account Entity.

Please go to Entity to find the Unique Identifier type field and try again.

Hi @v-siky-msft

thanks for your patience.

Ok, so the GUID of the Entity 'Postion Worker Assignments' should be 'Postion Worker Assignment'

PositionWorkerAssignment.png

The correct formula should be this one?

Lookup.png

Alex

Hi @Speed1 ,

The correct formula syntax should be:

LookUp('Position Worker Assignments','Position Worker Assignment'=ThisItem.'Position Worker Assignment','TheLookUpField').'Department Field'
//'TheLookUpField' is the LookUp field in Position Worker Assignments Entity, which relates to Deparment Entity
//'Department Field' is the field you want to retrieve from department entity

Hope this helps.

Sik

Hi @v-siky-msft ,

Sorry to bother you again but I think there is a misunderstanding. The Position Worker Assignments Entity has no relation to the Department Entity. The Position Worker Assignments Entity points to the Job Position (N:1) and there is the relation to the Department Entity.

I tried this way but without success:

LookUp('Job Positions','Job Position' = ThisItem.'Job Position',Department).Description

Thank you very much, this was the solution.

btw is there some documentation where this type of "advanced" interrogations of the cds are explained?

Hi @Speed1 ,

It seems not, but similar problems often appear in community forums. I have solved many similar problems. Maybe they can be for your reference.
