Filter a gallery from a date from and a date to range

Hi

Thought this would just work but isn't.

I have a gallery and I was looking to filter what the users sees based on the dates being selected.

I have 2 date pickers 'DateFrom' and 'DateTo'

//Initially tried this, but it showed no results in the gallery
Filter(
            SQLTable,
            ADateTime >= DateFrom.SelectedDate, ADateTime <= DateTo.SelectedDate
          )
//So tried wrapping it in Text function, but I get an error on both the Text parts
Filter(
            SQLTable,
            ADateTime >= Text(DateFrom.SelectedDate), ADateTime <= Text(DateTo.SelectedDate)
          )

I believe it's because my SQL column contains date and time, any ideas how I overcome this?

I also want the data to load if the user has not selected a date in DateFrom and DateTo pickers

Thanks

Hi @Lefty - I do not think this is a bug because I have run a test on my environment and there is no issue with blank data.

To merge the expressions, try:

Sort(
    Search(
        Filter(
            AddColumns(
                SQLTable,
                "DateTime",
                DateValue(
                    Text(
                        'Date Time Column',
                        "dd/mm/yyyy"
                    )
                )
            ),
            If(
                !IsBlank(DateFrom) && IsBlank(DateTo),//if DateFrom is not blank but DateTo is blank, then filter by DateFrom only
                DateTime >= DateFrom.SelectedDate,
                If(
                    !IsBlank(DateFrom) && IsBlank(DateTo),//if DateFrom is blank but DateTo is not blank, then filter by DateTo only
                    DateTime <= DateTo.SelectedDate,
                    IsBlank(DateFrom) && IsBlank(DateTo) || DateTime >= DateFrom.SelectedDate And DateTime <= DateTo.SelectedDate
                )
            ),
            UEmail <> "DataInt",
            vAllowOverrideUG = true || URegion = vUGroup,
            Len(CbxLogAc.Selected.Result)=0 || 'Record Team' = CbxLogAc.Selected.Result,
            Len(CbxLogAcOb.Selected.Result)=0 || 'Record Sub Team' = CbxLogAcOb.Selected.Result
        ),
        TextInpLogSearch.Text,
        "UEmail",
        "Action",
        "ActionObject",
        "Comments"
    ),

    SortOrder.Ascending

@Lefty  - use the "&&" or "And" operator. E.g.

Filter(
    SQLTable,
    ADateTime > DateFrom.SelectedDate && ADateTime < DateTo.SelectedDate
)

Hi @Lefty ,

We are not perpetually online, so it will require some patience for a response.

I just noticed your comment re Date Time. In that case we can create a new Date column which references your Date Time column, but excludes the Time.

Sort(
    Filter(
        AddColumns(
            SQLTable,
            "DateOnly",
            DateValue(
                Text(
                    ADateTime,
                    "dd/mm/yyyy"
                )
            )
        ),
        DateOnly > DateFrom.SelectedDate And DateOnly < DateTo.SelectedDate
    ),
    DateOnly,
    SortOrder.Ascending
)

We can modify this further by conditionally checking whether the DateFrom date picker, or the DateTo date picker, or both, have been selected:

Sort(
    Filter(
        AddColumns(
            SQLTable,
            "DateTime",
            DateValue(
                Text(
                    ADateTime,
                    "dd/mm/yyyy"
                )
            )
        ),
        If(
            !IsBlank(DateFrom) && IsBlank(DateTo),//if DateFrom is not blank but DateTo is blank, then filter by DateFrom only
            DateTime >= DateFrom.SelectedDate,
            If(
                IsBlank(DateFrom) && !IsBlank(DateTo),//if DateFrom is blank but DateTo is not blank, then filter by DateTo only
                DateTime <= DateTo.SelectedDate,
                IsBlank(DateFrom) && IsBlank(DateTo) || DateTime >= DateFrom.SelectedDate And DateTime <= DateTo.SelectedDate//show all if DateFrom and DateTo are blank, otherwise filter
            )
        )
    ),
    DateTime,
    SortOrder.Ascending
)

Thanks for this @Amik

I have tried this and the 2nd one seemed to work, but I am only able to pull the date date in the gallery now, whereas in fact I had a bunch of other column data being shown in the gallery, and cannot quiet see where your suggested code removes it from the view in the gallery.

I also have a search in the mix, and not sure where I place this part of the code, as I think your suggestion is probably the way forward for me, further help/suggestions would be highly appreciated

thought it may help if I actually provided my code, prior to needed to add date ranges:

Sort(
    Search(
        Filter(
            SQLTable,
            UEmail <> "DataInt",
            vAllowOverrideUG = true || URegion = vUGroup,// variable set at App OnStart
            IsBlank(CbxLogAc.Selected.Result) || IsEmpty(CbxLogAc.Selected.Result) || Action = CbxLogAc.Selected.Result,
            IsBlank(CbxLogAcOb.Selected.Result) || IsEmpty(CbxLogAcOb.Selected.Result) || ActionObject = CbxLogAcOb.Selected.Result
        ),
        TextInpLogSearch.Text,
        "UEmail",
        "Action",
        "ActionObject",
        "Comments"
    ),
    ID,
    SortOrder.Descending
)

 How do I add your suggestions in this please?

Hi @Lefty .

It is going to be very difficult to help if you do not provide all the information from the outset.

“2nd one seemed to work” does not inspire confidence – does the expression I provided work on its own or does it not?

We can talk about merging my suggested expression with the additional stuff you have now mentioned later.

Hi @Amik

--- EDIT ---

If I change the sort from Ascending to Descending,  that's when the data only shows date date and removes other data, which makes no sense... maybe its a bug? if i set sort to Ascending I get all the other text values in the gallery populated.

I think I need help with merging the 2 expressions as well. Struggling with having 2 filters, the search part I've added in the 1 expression and works ok.

2 things I need help with:

* Sorting by Descending

* Adding in another filter

Thanks
