Filtered Drop down default on edit

Hi, I have looked through the forum and can't quite find an answer to my fun little question:

I am building in powerapps for a SharePoint form.

I have a combo box looking up data from another list bringing back a distinct drop down of items [Project] (this is to be searchable for ease)
Example Data in lookup:

Project ACode AType A
Project ACode A

Type B

Project BCode BType C
Project BCode CType D

I then have a second dropdown to bring back the [Code] as a distinct list based on the filter of [Project] from the combo box.....this all works

What doesnt work is when the form is saved and re-opened the [Code] field does not set to the default that was selected in the original filling in of the form. I had the same issue with the combo box but fixed this using the DefaultSelectedItems property using {Value:ThisItem.'Project'}

I have tried using Parent.Default or even Thisitem.Code in the dropdown box Default option

I am stuck, any help would be greatly appreciated.

@IanP87 ,

It is just making it more confusing unfortunately as I have eliminated almost all the reasons it may not be displaying. There is one left - is the value in ThisItem.Code one of the values you can choose from

Distinct(
   Filter(
      ProjectList,
      Title = ComboBox1.Selected.Result
   ),
   'Account Code'
)

I have also done a test here with exactly the same field types and it (as expected) displayed the value in the Default of the drop-down. One last thing, cut (Ctrl-X) the dropdown out and then Paste (Ctrl-V) is back in to reset it.

Hi @IanP87 ,

If you have a Distinct() filter on the Combo Box, then the DefaultSelectedItems would be

{Result: ThisItem.'Project'}

The combo box is working it’s the filtered drop down that isn’t.

I can choose from the combo box and it filters the drop down I choose and save

when I open the form the view or edit, the drop down resets to blank

@IanP87 ,

The Default of a drop-down just needs to be the name of the field it is reading/writing to, so if Code is a Single Line of Text, it would be

ThisItem.Code

What is the Items of the Form ?

I have tried thisitem.code

the drop-down is a filtered distinct list from the secondary list as above. Not in the same list as the form, would this make a difference?

@IanP87 ,

If this is a Drop-down (not a Combo Box) It does not matter where the Items come from - the Default is what is displayed when the Form opens, so it just needs to "point" at the relevant field. What are the Items of the Form ?

Sorry what do you mean what are the items of the form?

@IanP87 m,

Sorry - mis-type I meant Item- Also if you put ThisItem.Code on a Label in the Form (just change the "key" label for testing), do you see the value you expect ? I am trying to establish that the value actually exists after saving.

the Code is stored as a text field in the SharePoint list, and when i test the form in SharePoint i can select a code and save. In the list the code shows....all working so far.

It is when i click to view or edit the record the code resets to blank, even though i have "ThisItem.Code" in the default option.

@IanP87 ,

Yes - but did you do the test with the Label in the Form I suggested - I need to see if it shows in the Form and you still have not given me the Item of the Form
