Generic SQL error ( 0x80044150 ) when sending email... unless Activity Read privilege set to Org

Hello!

Whenever a user tries to send an e-mail, a generic SQL error message is shown (error :  0x8004415)

The user is assigned to a security role that has the following privileges on Activity:

However, when I update the security role to have Read -> Org on Activity, emails can be sent no problem:

Of course, this causes another problem: the user can see every other users Activities, which is not acceptable.

To eliminate Environment settings as a possible cause, the tests above were performed with everything turned off:

Any ideas on how we can send emails (ie, not get that generic SQL error message) and still keep the read privilege on Activity to "user"?
