How to Add Text Input to a Dropdown Value

I have a SharePoint list with a column choice field(named ComputerManufacturers) that allows text input.

Dropdown.jpg

In My PowerApp, when I add my column into the App, it does not allow text input. Are there any work arounds so that:

Whenenver Other is selected, there is a way to add a text value  and that the app will send the text value and all of the options selected in the dropdown to my sharepoint column?

Hi @lparkerMDVIP,

Do you want to save both of the options selected and the text input to the Choice column?

Could you please share a bit more about the scenario?

Actually, the Combo Box has a function as "Allow searching" which could help you refer to the ComboBox.SearchText directly, but you could not save the Combo Box selected options and the ComboBox.SearchText at the same time, only one of them could be saved.

As an alternative, solution, I advise that you could add a Text input control outside the form and set the Update property of the Choice column data card as below:

{Value:Concatenate(DataCardValue4.Selected.Value,"-",TextInput1.Text)}

I don't think that is possible by default. But you can switch over to a combobox in PowerApps. If you allow to search its items, you can adjust the search hint text in advanced settings. By an If() clause, you can set which value to use for patching: ComboBox.Selected.Value or ComboBox.SearchText. Nevertheless, you can only patch a single line of text with SearchText IMHO as long as its not the same as one of the values of your SP dropdown.

If you create a manufacturer list for your SP dropdown values, you can also use a lookup column in your list and bind it to a combobox. Then you can patch the manufacturer list with SearchText as mentioned above so that users can choose it by combobox in Powerapps in future.

"By an If() clause, you can set which value to use for patching: ComboBox.Selected.Value or ComboBox.SearchText. "

How and where would this formula be placed? @zaphod88

Also, I would like to patch the options selected in the dropdown and the text value. @zaphod88

So you want to work with the LookUp Field? If yes, you can create a list in your SP site (same site as list in Message 1) - nothing special, just a Title column. Add the items from the Dropdown above. Add a Lookup column to this list to your main SP list - works best in List preferences in the settings gear.

Your new list has to be connected with your app then. Preferably make a collection out of it. Insert a combobox and set its Items property to this new list/collection. Next thing is the If() formula - do you have a submit or save button in your app? If yes, please show the OnSelect - it has to be placed there.

How can I create a dropdown in which first option is add functionality where users can add new item and that item will appear in the choices of that dropdown?

There is a choice column in my SharePoint list and I want an add functionality to that choice column in which users can add new value and that value will appear in the choice value of dropdown.
