How to Store drop down and combo box selected value to share point list.

Hello Experts, I have one app where i have one drop down and two combo box , i have created one share point list where i want to store there fields value. i found this blog(Link ) and i tried the same but its not working. As per blog i wrote patch function and created choice type column in the share point list (Please find the screen shot below). after mentioning link in formula they have mentioned data card but in my dropdown i dont have data card so i tried with dropdown value. but it is giving error. 

Please advise on this or suggest if   there any other way to achieve this for dropdown and combobox case .

Errors : The specified column 'Value' does not exist. The column with the most similar name is 'Name

:The Function 'patch' has some invalid argument.

Formula : Patch('BG Activity Recorder',Defaults('BG Activity Recorder'),{'Activity Association ':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference", value: Dropdown4.Selected.Value})

I actually deleted that question after re-reading your post.

If you are writing to a Choice column and the output of your drop down is Dropdown4.Selected.Value (which it is in this case), the Patch would be

Patch(
   'BG Activity Recorder',
   Defaults('BG Activity Recorder'),
   {
      'Activity Association': 
      {Value:Dropdown4.Selected.Value}
   }
)

 Note in particular the nested {} brackets.

As to your other question, the same guidance applies - if they are Choice columns you are writing to, the initial Value applies - the .Selected.xxxx depends on the Items of the dropdown as per the syntax provided.

As I said on my post - without specific information, I gave an example for patching to a Choice column. If your dropdown Items are formed from a field list, then the syntax would be (as you have discovered) .Selected.FieldName (in this case PlanID).

If you have changed the field type to a Text field as you have mentioned, your current syntax is correct, however the error you are seeing is often caused in Design mode when you run some invalid code and then fix it. and it may be only temporary. Try saving the app, exiting and then re-entering and see if it works then.

Hi @Anonymous ,

At it is a Choice field, you have a case issue with value instead of Value, but also you have to refer properly to the output of the control. So you need this (you do not need the other reference)

Patch(
   'BG Activity Recorder',
   Defaults('BG Activity Recorder'),
   {
      'Activity Association': 
      {Value:Dropdown4.Selected.xxxx}
   }
)

where xxxx depends on the Items property of the control.

 

When you type Dropdown4.Selected. (note second dot), valid values will come up underneath. For some guidance of what they mean: -

  • If your Items are Choices(ListName.FieldName) - a Choices or Lookup field), the reference will be Dropdown4.Selected.Value
  • If they are Distinct( . . .  .), it will be Dropdown4.Selected.Result
  • The other option is when they are based on a field value in a list (other than Distinct), then it will be Dropdown4.Selected.FieldName (actual field name)

I have below question.

For applying your solution shall i change data type of SP column ?

In My case what should i write in place of xxxx?

Can i apply the same solution for combo boxs (ID,B=Name), These combo boxes fetching data from SQL View

What is the Items property of your dropdown and

what type of field is it writing to?

This is the item property of my Activity dropdown. I am just defining two values. In share point  i am writing this field in choice type.

Thank you so much i wrote the same method on submit button it is giving below error for sure nothing wrong with the method you suggested but title is issue here. i look into this link (Link ) but seems there is no way to avoid it. please advise if you can suggest something on it

Hello @WarrenBelz , today i was trying to implement same formula for my other column in share point list but its not working and giving some error.

Code on On select button of Submit form.

Patch('BG Activity Recorder',Defaults('BG Activity Recorder'),{'Activity Plan':{value:Dropdown2.Selected.value}})

Error:

The only difference in this case is these value i am fetching in dropdown from SQL view and want to store in Share point. these column also i have created as choice.

Hello Guys , I have corrected this issue by this formula.

Defaults('BG Activity Recorder'),{ActivityPlan:Dropdown2.Selected.PLANID});

 there was some other error related to type so i changed SP list column from choice to text , then error was resolved. now there is an new error while submitting the form it shows this.
