How to change: Field - Data Type from String to Date

I've created an app from a sharepoint list. One of the fields is "Delivery Date".

Initially the list had this column formatted as 'String'.

I need the format as 'Date' so went back and changed the column format in the List to 'Date'.

 

How can I update the format to date in PowerApps with out deleting the App and recreating it using the updated List?

Go to View then Datasources. 

Click the ... next to the name of the list with the updated definition and choose refresh.

Followed the directions - see image 1 below. 

Deleted the field, and re-added it. Format is still string - see image 2. 

 

Any other ideas?

I had success using the refresh method but only when I closed the powerapps form, opened it again, and then refreshed the data before trying to alter any of the fields. 

Just want to confirm that addams61's tip worked for me as well.  Closing the App & all instances, then refreshing.
