How to have different values from display names in a drop down?

In the PowerApps solution we are developing, we are using a large number of dropdowns. The issue is, CRM, which is the environment we are reading and writing from gives off values instead of the display names. Whenever we submit a form on PowerApps, we have to run either If() or Switch() statements on the forms datacard, to transform the display name into the value the CRM expects.

Obviously this is a perfectly valid solution, however it makes readablity of the application rather difficult for anyone looking at the implementation.

If there is a way of having the value combined with the display name on the drop down, so that when i SubmitForm() i can just use the Update function on the datacard and reference just the Dropdown, it would make our lives much easier in the long run.

Thanks in advance

Re: How to have different values from display names in a drop down?

Just Some ideas, after encountering similar things with Service Codes on dropdowns, which are almost unidentifiable to end users.

Are you able to create a table with display names against known lookup values?

Are you able to add a calculated column on the source to have the values already populated?

Are you able to create a CSV format on the Values in the dropdowns, then use Left() Right() Trim() on the Update?

You can add a label control in the data card alongside the dropdown. You can perform a lookup against the dropdown to provide the display name at least.

Re: How to have different values from display names in a drop down?

@nickduxfieldgood ideas! The calculated column idea would be the most ideal, however we are under strict rules not to change the backend of CRM and to instead try to match the data.

I shall have a look into the CSV format with CDM, that might well allow us to update data externally without having to republish the form.

Thanks for your help!

I think you can use Add Columns to add your own calculated column without changing data, It will be like a transform table. Pwrhaps a CSV update with Add Columns?
