How to navigate through multiple galleries

Hi all, 

I've found several topics here and in other forums (and blogs and videos) that looked like they might help, but so far nothing is quite what I've got and nothing has helped. 

I've got a List of kids with some details and each one is assigned to a teacher group. The column in the List is called Group and it's a choice column (to pick one of 8 groups).

I've got an App I'm building off the List. 

The first screen has a gallery that lists the separate groups/classrooms.  As those change over time, I wanted the App to figure this out so I wouldn't have to manually update all the time. 

This gallery is GalTeachers and has this code for Items: Distinct(Choices([@'Master List Test'].Group),Value). This works perfectly.

I want people to be able to click on their teacher/group name and that takes them to a second screen which shows them just the kids assigned to them - in another gallery format. Then be able to click on a name in that gallery and go to a third screen that has a Form for viewing or editing individual kid info. 

I've tried so many different things I've lost track of what I've tried. I'm worried that it's not possible to pass the selected item value from the first gallery because of the distinct code. 

My current attempt is to get the info with a Collection, but I haven't been able to make that work. 

Current code in OnSelect in GalTeachers is: 

ClearCollect(ColChosenGroup,TitleGroup.Text);
Navigate(ScrKidsList, ScreenTransition.Fade)

(TitleGroup is the name of the label in the gallery) 

When I select an item in the gallery it is grabbing it for the collection:

In the second screen, ScrKidsList, I haven't been able to figure out how to get that info into the filter. 

This is all in the Items area of GalKidsList.

I had  Filter('Master List Test', Group.Value = ColChosenGroup.Selected) - but it errors saying "selected" isn't a valid name. 

I tried Filter('Master List Test', Group.Value = ColChosenGroup.Value) - but it errors saying I'm comparing text to a table. 

I tried several variations on not using the Collection - Filter('Master List Test', Group.Value = GalTeachers.Selected.TitleGroup)

- this one says I'm comparing text to a control. I tried adding .Value at the end, but that wasn't valid either.  I'm just making stuff up now I've tried so many things. 

And I haven't even gotten past this to having the third screen with the Form filter based on the selection in the 2nd gallery. 

Is what I'm trying doable??

I am wondering why you have Distinct of a Choice column when there should not be any duplicates, however I think what you are after is

Filter(
   'Master List Test', 
   Group.Value = galTeachers.Selected.Value
)

Getting the unique list of groups/teachers was last week's problem. Ha! While the options that are available don't repeat, there are duplicates in the actual List as there are 5-8 kids assigned to each group. Without the Distinct it was showing every instance in the List. Not sure how else to have done that. 

Unfortunately, your suggestion doesn't work. 

2 errors:

- Value isn't recognized

- And of course comparing Text to Error.

I can only guess here as what you posted does not fully explain the structure. What is the Text of the TitleGroup label in the Gallery ? If for instance it is ThisItem.Result, then your code would be

Filter(
   'Master List Test', 
   Group.Value = galTeachers.Selected.Result
)

Aha!! It  IS ThisItem.Result!  I know I played around with ThisItem and Result at some point, but I had so many permutations going on trying to figure this out I never stumbled on this one! 

So it seems I don't need the Collection after all and this is just getting the info from the label in the first Gallery.

You have made it far more complicated than it needs to be.  If I am correct, you are dealing with a simple one to many relationship between TeacherGroup and Students.  You can have two lists, TG and Students.  The TG list should consist of the 8 groups and any other identifying characteristics of a group. Use single line of text for the TeacherGroup names rather than a choice type.  The Student list should include a number column that is the teacherID from the teacher group, the student name and any other identifying characteristic of the student.  Your Initial gallery, (say Gallery1), should be the TeacherGroup,  The Student gallery (say Gallery2), should have an items property of Filter(Students, teacherID=Gallery1.Selected.ID).  The edit form for editing students (say StudentForm) already assigned to a group should have its data source: Students and it's Item property, Gallery2.Selected.  To edit the student details, there should be an icon Inside Gallery2, with its OnSelect property EditForm(StudentForm); Navigate(formscreen) 

One of the cards in the form should be teacherID and the Update property of that card should be Gallery1.Selected.ID.  This card should be hidden to prevent the user from changing it.  The process of adding a new student should be to start by selecting a TeacherGroup gallery item and having a button outside the gallery with its OnSelect property: NewForm(StudentForm); Navigate(formscreen)
