How to turn Off or set readonly for a Canvas PowerApp

Hello Team,

We are currently working on O365 tenant to tenant migration. We reached almost end of the migration. As a next step, would like to decommission the source tenant.

With respect to PowerApps, we migrated around 600 Canvas PowerApps for which we identified the owners. we still have around 300 Canvas PowerApp sitting on the source tenant. No body claimed the ownership so far for these. We want to turn these PowerApps or set them as read-only with an idea that users will reach us out if they are impacted. If no one reach us out, then we are good to clean them up.

Now the question, can we turn off the PowerApp or set it read-only? Any suggestions please?

Hey @AnantaChakkilam

as far as I know, it is not possible to set an app as "Read-Only". There are three different roles "CanView", "CanEdit" and "CanViewWithShare". A normal user has "CanView" or "CanViewWithShare" permission and can use the app. A co-owner has "CanEdit" permission.

But you can use PowerShell to get more information about the app and its users/owners. You need "Power Platform Administrator" role or "Global Admin" role for the admin cmdlets.

Use "Get-AdminPowerApp" to get every app within your tenant, you will also see the owner of the App (every app needs an owner). If you use "Get-AdminPowerAppRoleAssingment" you will see each user with the current permission.

Also, check out this post about Power Apps / Power Automate PowerShell cmdlets: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/de-de/blog/gdpr-admin-powershell-cmdlets/

Hope this will help you 🙂

Best regards
Marvin
