If/Else Navigation

Hi all -

Working on a Power App writing back to Dataverse.  I'm using an "If" statement to navigate to a particular screen depending on which Item is chosen from a Dropdown.

There are 5 screens to potentially navigate to:

Wild Game

Navigation should occur "OnSuccess" of an order submission using a form.  My current statement looks like this:

"Beef" in DataCardValue36.Selected.Value,Navigate('Beef Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Pork" in DataCardValue36.Selected.Value,Navigate('Pork Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Wild Game" in DataCardValue36.Selected.Value,Navigate('Wild Game Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Sheep" in DataCardValue36.Selected.Value,Navigate('Sheep Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
Navigate('Goat Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade))

No matter what I choose - the data gets written back correctly, but I'm only navigating to the 'Goat Screen", which is my "Else" option after it evaluates the first 4.

What am I missing?

Yes, always just one selection.  Still getting the Invalid argument type error.

what did you put in, did you edit mine to try and find right syntax for your specific column? Cause I think in dataverse using choice column has slightly different wording as opposed to sharepoint where its structure is ALWAYS {Value: item} I would test by just start writing

Switch(First(Self.LastSubmit.'Critter Type').

and seeing what the recommended options are there after you type that period, should recommend what to fill in, since you are using a choice column you basically are tryign to pull the first item out of the choice table that is in that column.

Just curious though, if always only selecting one, was there another reason for making that column a choice column? tends to help to avoid that type when possible

@TheRobRush  - Appreciate your time on this.

I'm not getting any recommendations after I type the period.  It does not seem to like the column name at all.

It may make sense to change to a text column and just provide an array of accepted values?

Absolutely. If you will only ever have a single value there it would be much better for your app performance to just make a text column for this value, and then on your form just add a dropdown on its data card and set the items to ["Item 1"", "Item 2", "Item 3"] etc.

But if you want to figure it out as is give this a look seems you reference the values as integers when looking at the choice column, you may check your data structure and see what numbers were assigned to each choice and test looking for those instead

Well, Several hours later - Still not working!

I deleted the choice column, Created a text column, and added that to my form.  Still will not Navigate to the proper screen - this is the last string I used:

Switch(Self.LastSubmit.'Critter Type',
"Beef",Navigate('Beef Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Pork",Navigate('Pork Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Wild Game",Navigate('Wild Game Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
"Sheep",Navigate('Sheep Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade),
Navigate('Goat Screen',ScreenTransition.Fade))

That is the only syntax that worked with 'critter type' column.  Navigates to "else" option every time, even when I do if statement instead.  Just doesn't seem to evaluate the other options.

Do a set(lastcritter,self.lastsubmit.critter type) and plug lastcritter in a label so you can see what is happening

Before I did that, it worked.  Once.  I had made a "resetForm" command with an onselect button, and I took that away so I could see the result both on the form and on the label.  Now my form has disappeared when I try it again.

Walking away for the night.  Thank you for your help, @TheRobRush.

Ok so I made a new environment, with Dataverse, just to make sure I was not missing anything specific to dataverse by working on this with you via sharepoint, and mine is working fine.

I made a table in dataverse and one of it's columns was set as single line of text and named Critter Type

Now Just to test it out let's try something.

First add a new blank screen, and on this screen put a single form.

Make this forms datasource your dataverse table

On the data card where critter type is delete the text input control and place a dropdown.

this dropdowns items should be

["Pork", "Beef", "Other"]

you can add more, but just to test have at least those.

In this forms onsuccess I placed

Switch(Self.LastSubmit.'Critter Type', "Pork", Navigate(Pork), "Beef", Navigate(Beef), Navigate(overviewScreen));

we then change the datacards Update property to

//rename dropdown 1 to your dropdowns name

I then put a button on screen that lets me summon

and a second one for

I have run this form about 15 or so times now, and no matter which item I choose form the dropdown I am directed to the proper page after. So try this with a fresh form on a blank page, and if that works well then move that form over to the original spot and replace old one.

Haha, well that works -as it should.  I'm dumbfounded, but I've probably hit a toggle or something along the way.  I've redone the form on that page a few times.  I think I need to redo the whole page - but I'm glad that it works!

Thanks again!
