If Else Patch

Hey there, I'm trying to connect a field box answers to update another Sharepoint List currently. I was wondering if I can patch the data I got from the textbox and then use it to update the field in the Sharepoint List?

This is the code I'm working with now:
If(eLeaveApp.'Leave Type' = "Medical"&&"Maternity", Patch('EMP Leave Quota'.Used, "0" (it's not complete, i'm stuck)

If the user chooses their leave type from the dropdown box as medical OR maternity it updates the Medical Entitlement value, but if the user selects one that is not any of the both it'll update the USED box of the Annual Entitlement.

@gimar01 ,

This is a very bad design and I am not even sure this will work, when you have key linking fields of different types, but now all of this needs to go OnSuccess (just leave the SubmitForm on the button).

If(
   'Leave Type_DataCardl'.Selected.'Leave Type'= "Medical" ||
   'Leave Type_DataCardl'.Selected.'Leave Type'= "Maternity",
   Patch(
      'EMP Leave Quota',
      {Title:Text(Self.LastSubmit.'Employee No')}
      {Used:0}
   ),
   Patch(
      'EMP Leave Quota',
      {Title:Text(Self.LastSubmit.'Employee No')},
      {Used:Value(DataCardValue24.Text)}
   )
);
Patch(
   eLeaveApp,
   {ID:Self.LastSubmit.ID},
   Form4_l.Updates,
   Form2.Updates,
   Form4.Updates,
   {DateApply: Now()}
);
Navigate{Review);
ResetForm(Form3);
ResetForm(Form2);
ResetForm(Form4_l);
ResetForm(Form4);
UpdateContext({showAlert:false})

@gimar01 ,

For list to match the field needs to be unique to the "parent" record - I am sure there are other records with the same values as Duration and Used - this is a fundamental function of relational databases. You can add another "else"  in the format

If(
  Argument1,
  Result1,
  Argument2,
  Result2,
  Argument3,
  Result3,
  Result4
)

the last one is optional.

We are now 36 posts into this and need to close it as I cannot see an end in sight currently.

I am sorry you have taken on someone else's mess. You can choose to accept anything that has assisted you in one of the issues you have raised.

Also I just realise if there is a way where I can add the value into the list itself instead of updating it completely? If the it is under annual, it'll add the data collected into it. Vice versa for medical. How can I go with doing this in another method too, I'm open to suggestions

HI @gimar01 ,

Firstly, there is information that is not clear from your post such as if the drop-down is on a form and if this form is based on the same list you are trying to Patch to - but for a start the syntax would look something like this

If(
   YourDropDownName.Selected.'Leave Type'= "Medical" ||
   YourDropDownName.Selected.'Leave Type'= "Maternity",
   Patch(
      'EMP Leave Quota',
	  {ID:ThisItem.ID},
      {Used:0}
   ),
   Patch(
      'EMP Leave Quota',
	  {ID:ThisItem.ID},
      {Used:YourDaysField}
   )
)

Hi there, sorry for the lack of information. The dropdown box is indeed in a form name 4_1 with the Card named 'Leave Type'.  Secondly, I was wondering if I can do an if else for the Maternity where it would deduct from Maternity instead, making it have a total of 3 types, Annual, Medical and Maternity. Also I was wondering if I can put a formula like this "{ Quantity: Quantity + 10 } )"[I found this on an updateif command on Google].I want to update the data to add the amount the person has chosen as 'Duration'. Example, if I choose to take 3 days and off work and the duration is set to 3. Can I put it like "Quantity + Duration". Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi @gimar01 ,

Yes, your syntax for updating an existing value is correct (Quantity: Quantity + AddedValue)

For your first question, you can certainly update any field as long as you have the logic correct, so the more detailed your data structure, the less compromises you will have updating it.

Do you think I should use updateIf or patch in a situation like this? Which would you recommend that I use?

@gimar01 ,

They both perform much the same action except UpdateIf will update all records matching the filter. (much like a ForAll(Patch) statement. I tend to use Patch more.

Is it recommended that I add the code here? Or should I find somewhere else to put the code in? I'm currently on a little uncertainty on where I should place the code so that it executes.

@gimar01 ,

No - you will not get the LastSubmit() value of the form putting it after the SubmitForm() on the same code.

Put everything after the SubmitForm() on the OnSuccess of Form3

Also, I tend to do this

Patch(
   eLeaveApp,
   {ID:Self.LastSubmit.ID},
   Form4_l.Updates,
   Form2.Updates,
   Form4.Updates,
   {DateApply: Now()}
);
Navigate(Review);
ResetForm(Form3);
ResetForm(Form2);
ResetForm(Form4_l);
ResetForm(Form4);
UpdateContext({showAlert:false});

Sorry if I'm a little lost on this but what is the {ID:ThisItem.ID) refers to? Because currently I'm facing some errors with it. I added the line where the Used will add on the Duration that the user has selected. "{Used:0+DataCardValue24}". One more question is the field of "YourDaysField" that you provided me referring to the Sharepoint List or the powerapps. If it is powerapps It's called DataCardValue24 and in the Sharepoint List it's called Used as the column name.
