If & Patch

Hi,

 

I'm building a timesheet app and I have a screen to view and edit timesheets. At the moment in the OnSelect of my submit button, I have an IF function that states if the record ID is blank to create a new record within the SharePoint list and patch the fields selected within my app (hopefully that makes sense), and if not - so the record is already within the SharePoint list - to Patch any fields that have been amended within the app.

 

I have 5 statuses within the timesheet app - saved, pending approval, approved, rejected and new. And timesheets may have several different approvers, so a few entries could be approved and other entries rejected. Only saved, rejected and new entries can be edited and submitted by users.

 

There is a problem with my original function, as if users do have some entries approved and others rejected it will re-submit all the entries, so the approved ones will then be re-submitted for approval. What I would like to do instead, is it will only re-submit the rejected entries.

This should create a new record if the ID is not present.
I will offer some fundamental advice here that may assist with this and future ForAll() exercises. It is not designed to be a Loop, although it can work this way with considerable performance penalty as it does an individual Patch for each record. ForAll() creates a Table, which can be patched in one action provided its content is correct. For new records, this is simply a Table with field names and field types matching the list. For existing records, including the SharePoint record ID in the table causes it to update that record for each of the Table records.

Hi @WarrenBelz , thank you, that works!

I just needed to change the 

_Gal.lbl_Status_14.Text

 To _Gal.lbl_EntryID_1.Text - as said in your response to include the SharePoint record ID so it can update the record.

 

I also added more status values to the filter function as they will need to submit for saved and new entries too. 

Once entries are submitted for approval or have been approved they are no longer editable and can't be re-submitted.

That is interesting as I thought you would have to turn the Text value to numeric (hence the With() statement)

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
