Is it possible to use enviroments variables in an existing app

Hi Community.

Is it possible to use environment variables in an already existing app?

I have created a solution and added an existing app. In the app I did not find a way to use the environment variables for connecting to SharePoint.

Difference 1: In the left menu the data sources are not displayed.
Screenshot from the old app I added to the solution:

Screenshot from the new app created directly from the solution:

Difference 2: In the dialog for creating the data sources, the advanced tab with the environment variables is not present.

My question: Is there any way to change an existing app to environment variables, or do I need to completely rebuild the app?

Unfortunately an unmanaged export of the solution with subsequent import did not help.
