Is there an app for this?

Our company is trying out Microsoft Teams and looking into some apps/connections that might be useful for us. We were wondering...

Is there an app or add-on that would work well for projecting scrolling text/images on a few screens around our office? The intention is that we'd have 2-3 large monitors around the office that scroll through market info, branding, motivational messages, etc. almost like an interactive screensaver that we could easily manipulate or edit.

I am very new to this realm so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd probably use slideshow software for that since the transitions are more plentiful and easier to use. Animoto is an online slideshow maker that licenses music for you and makes the slideshow for you. Picasa from Google is simplified: you can put in photos and text. PowerApps is not the first program I'd recommend for that purpose.

That said, if you must use PowerApps, I'd recommend these general steps:

  1. Create a database with the columns: id, text, image. Fill in the table with corresponding data and URLs to images.
  2. Add Gallery1 to the app.
    Set the Gallery Items to
    Filter(database, id=variable)

It should not work yet because we need to define the variable.
  3. Inside the Gallery, add a TextBox and an Image box. Maximize the Gallery size, the Template size, the Textbox size, and the Image box size. Set these properties so that the objects are only visible when the record has data for it:

    TextBox.Visible:
    !IsBlank(ThisItem.text)

    Image.Visible:
    !IsBlank(ThisItem.image)

  4. Create Timer1. Set Timer1 to advance the Gallery to the next item.
    Timer1.OnTimerEnd:
    UpdateContext({variable: If(variable+1>CountRows(database),1,variable+1})
This means, "When the Timer ends, add 1 to variable. If adding 1 would make it a number larger than the items in the database, then reset the variable to 1."

  5. Set Timer1's duration to a time appropriate for your needs.

This all results in a Gallery that advances according to the timer. Text and Images will only appear if there is data in the database for them.
