Label Field not updating in Sharepoint Record

Hi all,

Very much new to Power Apps, and having an issue on something which is likely quite basic. Appreciate any feedback.

I have a 2 Sharepoint lists, one containing the records and another that contains Merchant Names and Merchant IDs. Idea is to allow list 1 to automatically input the corresponding Merchant ID when a record is created/updated.

The lookup seems to work: LookUp(MerchantID, MerchantName= Dropdown2.Selected.Value, MerchantID) populates the Merchant ID label in the form as expected. However, I cannot get the created/saved records to display this in the list.

Likely an issue with the Update of the label:

I've tried a few different things for this field, but no luck thus far. Can anyone help to point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

@indowarrior ,

What is the name of the List (my code posted is probably not correct)

LookUp(
   ListName,
   MerchantName= Dropdown2.Selected.Value
).MerchantID

Hi folks,

Wanted to report that I finally got it to work.

What I did was change the label control to a text input, and applied the Lookup that @WarrenBelz suggested (with slight mod to fix 'errors'):

I'm not able to say why it was failing to update as a label, but this works for us.

Thanks to all for your input, much appreciated!

Regards and have a good day

You're in the right place to learn a lot about the platform. I think you will come up with a bunch of questions related to forms very soon, so check out this documentation for an overview of how they work. They are a handy tool and the learning curve isn't too steep.

Which list is connected to your form? If it isn't the list with the MerchantID column, then you need to do a lookup rather than trying to call the value directly with ThisItem.MerchantID

To save your newly-entered data back to the list, is your app calling the SubmitForm function? It is usually found in the OnSelect property of a button outside of the form.

Let us know if that gives you enough to get back on track.

Thanks for this, will def go through it.

It is indeed connected to the list with the MerchantID column.

Actually the form does work in that other fields are duly created/updated in the list. It is only the MerchantID field/column that isn't added - even though it shows the correct lookup value on the form itself.

Appreciate your assistance on this!

OK, next question: What kind of column is MerchantID in the Sharepoint list? Short text, integer, something else?

Text, or "Single line of text" as Sharepoint classifies it

OK, try putting this in the Update property of the card:

Text(Label1.Text)

I am assuming Label1.Text has something in it - if you are unsure, create a test label and set its Text property to Label1.Text to check for sure.

Hi @indowarrior

Do you want to pass ID to the other SharePoint list ?

create a number or test field on other list and when submit the form just add at end of the submitting use Patch

Thank you

This didn't do the trick unfortunately - the field still remains blank after update/save.

No, the label field is getting the value from another list via a lookup - successfully it seems. All I need it to do now is save/update and show the field in the 'main' list attached to this form.

Thanks
