Launching s specific browser?

Hey everyone

I know there's an old post for this back from early 2019, but maybe things have changed.

Possible to launch into a specific browser? Most people in my org have Chrome as a default, but there's an application that I want to launch to that only runs in Explorer. I know if I add a button to my app that launches to that program, most ppl will just end up getting an error since their default browser settings.

Fingers crossed.

Re: Launching s specific browser?

@mdevaney is correct that it's not possible within a canvas app itself, since it can only invoke a Launch function then the device's handler takes over.

That being said, you can accomplish this a few other ways. One way is to use an extension for the (presumed) org-wide browser (Chrome) to emulate IE. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ie-tab/hehijbfgiekmjfkfjpbkbammjbdenadd?hl=en-US

Another way is to establish a custom URI scheme to handle your scenario. Think like mailto, tel, sip - all which are built-in ways to redirect to a mail app, phone, or messenger. This is a complicated approach, though. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/internet-explorer/ie-developer/platform-a...

@smartin

Sorry, but this is not possible.  Windows has a handler that opens files based on their extension (example: JPG opens with Paint, HTML opens with Chrome).  It is not possible to specify which browser will open the web-page, except for perhaps, MS Edge which is a special case.  Otherwise, Windows will simply open a page using the default browser (Chrome).

Link to MS Edge Method.
