Link/connect external excel file (in onedrive for example) to excel file behind application

Hey!

I want to link fields of an external excel file to fields in the excel file behind my application (so that for example a recorded timestamp (because a start button is clicked) is recorded AND in the excel file behind the powerapp but also to another (online/offline) excel file. In that way, other people could view these timestamps without opening the excel file behind the application (which would stop the app from working).

Since connecting 2 fields of 2 excel files saved in onedrive/sharepoint doesn't work, I am searching for another solution.

Thanks in advance!

Aschwin

Re: Link/connect external excel file (in onedrive for example) to excel file behind application

Hi @Aschwinb ,

First of all, please understand that you cannot create new columns from PowerApps. PowerApps can only manage data inside the data sources. So, you need to first created all the columns you need from the data source side, then you could add/edit data to these data sources like excel tables.

Thanks for the answer!

So it isn't possible to update a value in a cel from the excel file behind the powerapp (with a value that comes from another excel file)?

Hi @Aschwinb ,

You can update Table1(in Excel file1) using data from Table2(in Excel file2). Just use Patch function, use a formula like below:

Patch(Table2,Defaults(Table2),{Column1: DataCardValue1.Text, Column2: DataCardValue2.Text})

DataCardValue1/2 could be the text controls' names that store the data from Table1.
