Marking sections in Gallery as complete

Hi, 

I am putting together a survey for students at a College but I'm having a little trouble. I currently have it set up so that on the first page the student enters their student number, and the second page then lists all the teachers that that student has listed in a Gallery. 

At the moment I have arrows next to each teacher, placed outside the gallery, which bring the student to a different page each with feedback questions. When the student it finished answering the questions they are then brought back to the screen listing their teachers, and that teacher is then marked as complete, as shown below: 

The questions being asked about each teacher are the same, I have separated the questions for each teacher as I couldn't figure out another way to mark each separate section as complete. Also, the responses are being input into a Sharepoint list and I couldn't figure out a way to separate their responses for each teacher. 

The problem I am having is that most students have 3 teachers, but some have up to 7. When there are more than 3 teachers, the student has to scroll on the gallery to view them, but this means that the arrows and the complete sign no longer line up with the teachers information. I tried making the sections in the gallery smaller so 7 could fit without scrolling, but this meant that when a student only had 3 teachers (which is the most common) there was a huge empty space in the gallery, and the arrows were still there so the student would still be able to answer questions they don't need to. 

Does anyone have any suggestions on a better way to make this work?

You can set it up as follows I believe:

Have a list for replies that tracks the questions (its nice that they are all the same btw!!) and then add columns for username, sid (student id), professor, and status. These will be how you differentiate between them.

For your gallery in the 'student profile' for lack of a better term you will use Filter(SPList_Replies, username = User().FullName. (you can use email, fullname, or even student id if you want) This will show only the classes/professors that the current student has.

Now when they click one of the professors to take the review/quiz you can send them all to the same screen with a form that is linked to that new list. You can set the item on that form to GalleryName.Selected or you can pass that item to the screen in the navigate function.

Try this and let me know how it goes. This is how I do it for a few apps that are similar to what you are trying to do.

Thank you so much for your help, it is now working in terms of the responses for each teacher being input into the Sharepoint list!

The part I am having trouble with is complete button (please see image below) - I currently have the Visible property of the button to 'varNext2Pressed', with Next2 being the button pressed to get back to the below screen after the student has answered the questions. I have the Next2 button's OnSelect function set to: Set(varNext2Pressed, true). 

This semi-works in that once the button is pressed the Complete button appears next to the teachers names, except this makes the button appears next to all the teachers at once. What I'm hoping to achieve is this button to appear next to each teacher after they complete the questions for that specific teacher. Do you know if this would be possible? Or if there is another way to mark the separate sections within the gallery as complete?

Yeah so i mentioned a status column in the SP list. For example if they have answered all questions and hit the submit button then you can update the status to complete. Now you can just check this to see what it is and display your buttons based on that.

Other button visible property: If(ThisItem.Status = "Complete", true, false)

Complete button visible property: If(ThisItem.Status = "Complete", false, true)

Sorry I'm very new to all this and I'm getting a bit lost! I've made a status column in the SP list and have got that to be updated when the student has answered the questions about that specific teacher. 

However, when I'm putting the functions exactly as above I am getting error messages on both: 'Incompatible types for comparison. These types can't be compared: Error, Text.'

So in your gallery where you are showing the student's reviews one for each teacher, you had a completed or complete button that you wanted to disappear for each student rather than all at once. So to do this we now track the completion of each review for each student in one big ledger list. To get that student's reviews only we can use the filter function like this:

Filter(SPListName, StudentName = User().FullName);

This will give you a gallery with only that student's reviews. Now in each of those review 'tiles' in the gallery, you want to individually decide if you should show that complete button. This is where you use the above code. You only want the button to be visible when the specific item is complete and we now have a status column for each item. You simply put:

 If(ThisItem.Status = "Complete", false, true)

and now each item that has the status "Complete" will not have a visible button and others will. The student can then go in and finish them.

I'm so sorry but I still can't get it working! 

With the filter function you've shown above I have tried to change it slightly, as the student number or name is listed a few different times (once for each teacher that they have), so I've tried to filter by the student number they've entered and the teacher that they've selected. To attempt to do this I have entered in the Visible function of the Complete button:

Filter('Test 2', TxtStudentNumber.Text = 'Student Number' And GalTeacher.Text = Teacher) + If(ThisItem.Status = "Completed", true, false)

Where:

'Test 2' = Sharepoint list

TxtStudentNumber = text box where student enters their student number

GalTeacher = Teachers name field in gallery

I did a + instead of a ; as it said it expected an operator such as +

I have also done the true/false the other way round as I wanted the Complete button to be visible when the student has completed that section 

Please let me know if any of this seems incorrect to you - it probably will!

Silly mistakes are cheap ways to learn a good lesson! I have made and still make silly mistakes almost every day with Power Apps. Alot to juggle in your head sometimes! Glad to hear it helped!! 🙂
