Media Image Reference - association with This-Item.'Name'

Dear Power-Apps Dream Team

I am asking for the help of an easy issue that I spotted during associations of two elements using the different Data Source.

Could You please sort a problem regarding associating the images (Stored in Power-App/Options-Collection) with the This-Item.-Asset-No selected in Browse-Gallery. (Please see the attached pictures).

Please see attached pictures of the Steps of the functions I put into App and the results :

1. Connection between two screens by selected Asset No. (Please see the attached picture)

2. To see Option-Collection:

I put a function :

App On-Start ( f x 😞
Clear-Collect(
Options-Collection,
{Asset-No:"1703", Image: '1703'},
{Asset-No:"1670", Image: '1703'},
{Asset-No:"692", Image: '1703'},
{Asset-No:"693", Image: '725 - Checkbox 07.20'}
)

(Please see the attached picture)

2. Proof that the Random Browse-Gallery with Options-Collection is working on random Screen
(Please see the attached picture)

My main problem is how to associate the Browse-Gallery-Main taking Data from SQL Server with unique picture (stored directly in Power-App ) for each item in Browse-Gallery-Main.

I am kindly asking for advice to avoid complications, I need to connect each item in Browse-Gallery with Unique picture.

Thank You in Advance for kind assistance in this matter.

Dominic

@Dom_Mer

I am glad it worked.

Seeing the screen show of your data was the clue...you are using a nchar(10) on AssetNo.  That means that the field AssetNo will be padded with spaces for a length of 10.

Comparing "123456" to "123456    " does not compare.

However "123456" does compare to Trim("123456    ")

So, that was what you needed.

Enjoy your PowerApp'ing.  You only need to repay by clicking on the Accept Solution button so that others will see that this is a solution and they can benefit from it as well.

@Dom_Mer

First off, your snippet of the OnStart includes dashes in the ClearCollect, OptionsCollection and AssetNo.  I assume that it is some how a typo as those are not allowed.

For your Image

Consider changing your Formula on the image control to the following:

Lookup(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo).Image

I hope this is helpful for you.

Dear Sir

Thank You for Your message. You are my Hero, the Formula on the image control is Perfect. Unfortunately, the items on the BrowseGalleryMain are associated only with the first showing image {AssetNo:"1823", Image: Empty}, on the App OnSelect :

ClearCollect(
OptionsCollection,
{AssetNo:"1823", Image: Empty},
{AssetNo:"1703", Image: '1703 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1615", Image: '1615 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1594", Image: '1594 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1272", Image: '1272 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1156", Image: '1156 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1002", Image: '1002 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"809", Image: '809 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"725", Image: '725 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"724", Image: '724 - Checkbox 07.20'}
)

Is there an understandable reason for that? Did I make an incorrect Collection List?

I am looking forward to any propositions You may advise.

Thank You very much for Your help.

Dominic

@Dom_Mer

Well, the first question would be, are we comparing text to text or numbers to text?

Is your AssetNo in your actual data source a text string?  If it is numeric, then you might want to take all the quotes out of your OptionsCollection around the AssetNo's.

If that doesn't nail it, then post back with some of your formulas that you are using at this time.

Thank You for Your all replies. My view of the working App is to see a picture that is connected with unique AssetNo (Stored in SQL Server Table).  I would like to keep a pictures directly on PowerApp. My problem is that I am trying to associate the item stored in a DataBase with picture that is stored in Collection (in PowerApp). I am looking for a Form that can filter, or group, connect two different sources together. For Instance: Filter( '[dbo].[NAME]', AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo, Image). My point is to Connect the each picture with each AssetNo.

All Formulas I put:

  1. App

OnStart:

ClearCollect(
OptionsCollection,
{AssetNo:"1823", Image: Empty},
{AssetNo:"1703", Image: '1703 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1615", Image: '1615 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1594", Image: '1594 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1272", Image: '1272 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1156", Image: '1156 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"1002", Image: '1002 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"809", Image: '809 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"725", Image: '725 - Checkbox 07.20'},
{AssetNo:"724", Image: '724 - Checkbox 07.20'}
)

  1. Screen1 (BrowseGalleryMain)

Items:

SortByColumns(Search(Filter([@'[dbo].[NAME]'], StartsWith(category_name, SearchBox.Text),category_name = "megger"), SearchBox.Text,"AssetNo", "category_name", "description"),"Unique_index",
If (SortDescending1, Ascending, Descending))

  1. Button in BrowseGalleryMain:

OnSelect:

Navigate(Screen2, ScreenTransition.None)

  1. Screen2 (GalleryAttach)

Items:

Filter('[dbo].[NAME]', AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo)

  1. Label (in GalleryAttach)

Text:

ThisItem.AssetNo

  1. Image (in GalleryAttach)

Image:

LookUp(OptionsCollection,
ThisItem.AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo, Image)

Unfortunately on every selected AssetNo, we can see only first picture attached to App OnStart ( {AssetNo:"1823", Image: Empty} )

I would like to see on AssetNo:"1703", Image: '1703 - Checkbox 07.20'}, right now I see the same Image as for Asset"1823", Image:Empty.

 I think that I missed something to connect ‘Collection’ with ‘dbo’ on some point so the AssetNo can be associated with the proper Image. (I created an Exel sheet with local stored (in Powerapp) pictures by creating a single column named Image, and rows with picture links [ms-appdata:///local/Resources/Assets/Images/724 - Checkbox 07.20.JPG, etc], and put on Sharepoint). I created on separate screen a Gallery: and put on Items: ‘OptionsCollection’. On my surprise, by adding a label with a formula on Text: LookUp('[dbo].[Name]',AssetNo = ThisItem.AssetNo,AssetNo, and two other labels, that match exactly with the showing picture. So the only issue is that I do not know why there is a problem to connect that Gallery with the BrowseGalleryMain with a proper filter that will show only the required picture for selected AssetNo.

Thank You one more time for any help and propositions You mentioned. I am very appreciated and I am pleased if there are more ideas if You can get.

Thank You in Advance

Dominic

@Dom_Mer

Please change your Image formula to the following:

LookUp(OptionsCollection,
       AssetNo=ThisItem.AssetNo, Image)

 Your previous formula was ThisItem.AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo.  From what I see of your information, this would be evaluate to 'true' because ThisItem.AssetNo does in fact equal BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo.

Lookup only returns the first item that is true for the condition supplied.  Your condition was 'true' for all, therefore it would only return the first item.

Your condition should be as stated above.  In this case we are only 'true' when the AssetNo in your OptionsCollection is equal to ThisItem.AssetNo.

Dear Gentleman,

Thank You for Your perfect answer. That makes a good sense and sounds a lot more logical than my attempts. Unfortunately after changed formula In GalleyAttach for a Image,

Image:

"LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=ThisItem.AssetNo, Image)"

there is showing only a blank square.

I apologise for my incoherent,  I would like to get a formula that will be as below:

1.In GalleryAttach

Items:

Filter('[dbo].[NAME]' & ‘OptionsCollection’ by AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo)

I spotted that it is very easy to see 'dbo'-Lookups in the Gallery with Collection, but is much harder to see 'Collection'-Lookups in the Gallery that is using 'dbo' source.

Thank You for Your effort, time and understanding.

Kind Regards

Dominic

@Dom_Mer

Can you please clarify the type of column AssetNo is in your DataBase?

Consider trying any of the following:

LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=Text(ThisItem.AssetNo), Image)

Or

LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo, Image)

Or

LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=Text(BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo), Image)

Dear Sir,

These lookups also are Great, but still, I see a blank square of the picture attached. Regarding the type of a column of AssetNo, please find attached screenshot.

Thank You very much for so many great ideas.

Dominic

@Dom_Mer

That is helpful.  Try any of these:

LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=Trim(ThisItem.AssetNo), Image)

Or

LookUp(OptionsCollection, AssetNo=Trim(BrowseGalleryMain.Selected.AssetNo), Image)
