Model driven apps, permissions, user roles

I'm wondering if I have missed something.
Is it really that hard(complex) to create user permissions and roles when creating model driven apps?
All I have seen and found is the 2001 looking settings windows (which are taken straight out of Dynamics 365).

The idea is rather simple, but it appears that there is no simple solution:
Our POC has tables for which I want to assign certain roles to users, e.g., editor, reader or no access at all, or partial access, e.g., can edit certain columns in a table.

To do this, it appears that I have to decypher the enormous rows of completely unrelated naming for permissions? There is nothing explained really there.

Hence I am wondering, whether I have missed something - is there really no easier way to do this, like adding permissions to views?

Hey! There is 2 ways to do that:

1: wirte every single name and see if it matchs the User().FullName (as you mencioned)

2: Put the users in azure groups or office365 groups and them check if the user belongs to that group
